I dont understand people that just pull ridiculous numbers out of their ass. every week I get into it with somebody that claims their cards can do stuff thats just not possible.

for example last week a guy said his 8400gs could average 34 fps in Fallout 3 with med settings. it turned into several pages of arguing and he even claim to run FEAR 2 and many other games on high or even max settings with that 8400gs. I linked him to tons of reviews that showed what he claimed wasnt even close to possible. another guy in that same thread said he ran Oblivion on ultra high settings with his 8400gs.

now some clown is saying that he can run Batman Arkham Asylum on max settings and pyhsx with an 8600gt. those settings make my gtx260 sweat even at 1024x768 and I have to oc it just for it to be playable. I have an 8600gt and 4200 X2 in another machine and what he claimed isnt remotely possible.

am I the only one who gets tired of the nonsense some people spew?
 
lol I just laugh it off when people I know say things like that even though it makes them sound dumb, no point in arguing because people aren't going to admit what they have is any less good than it is.
 
I find that most of the people that make such claims are the type that just install a game and start playing it. They don't even bother configuring the graphics or audio settings. They just play it as is. They may think that there is no need to configure anything or they may not even know its possible. If they came from exclusive console gaming that's entirely the case as the console games are pretty much all setup for you.

I too have heard similar claims and I just laugh them off. On one occasion I proved it to someone who ran their mouth by physically showing them the difference on my machine vs. theirs at a LAN event. That felt good but unfortunately you can't do that for the entire planet's idiot population that has no clue what they are talking about. You must accept that some people just have no idea what they are talking about and ignore it.

There is always going to be those people who constantly lie and then lie about their lies and lie some more about those lies to try and cover up the fact that they are lying in the first place. Like this guy I know. This has nothing to do with technical stuff, but he said he went salmon fishing once out in Bodega Bay in CA. He said he went with 2 other guys and they were constantly pulling up fish like every 10 minutes. He just kept talking about how they had all these fish and it was so easy and they just kept fishing. I say, how did you do that? Their is a limit to how many fish you can actually keep per person. It is against the law and their are fish & game at the dock waiting for people to come back and make sure they didn't fish past their limit. It was funny because after I asked him that, he said, well we were catching and releasing them but it was crazy cause we caught so many. I just laughed because the whole time he was full of shit. I can't believe anything he says anymore. I usually just laugh inside and nod my head acting like I agree with him.

There are tons of people like this its ridiculous but there is nothing you can do to stop them it seems. I even catch him in a lie and say...no that didn't happen I was there. He then says oh that was at a different time then. He still continues to do this.

What you gonna do?

The internet removes some real life boundaries that would normally separate you from those who act this way.
You can either ignore them or put them down, but beware they are tiresome as hell at times and you have to be just as tiresome to wear them out.
Forums dont make for a good battlefield when you are up against bullshitters that dont even read your replies.
Having good back up from fellow forum members helps a lot.
 
well these people actually think that what they are saying is true. its funny how they discount my personal benchmarks and ALL those crazy tech sites. lol
 
I am always painfully honest on the internet. There is no difference between lying on the internet and doing so in person.
 
I know a guy who suffers from e-penis syndrome. He swears right and left that his 4870x2 is just an overall better card than my GTX295. He'll pull up bogus excuses and numbers just to inflate his e-penis. This guy is bad, really bad. Not just with videocard talk - anything, it could just be about bittorrent program talk or something and he'll try to convince you to use his pick. From time to time i'd mess with him just to get his temper going because it's funny what these fanboys and liars would say just to dominate in a conversation.

Why bother memorizing any of that info at all. I play every game I like with great performance and I literally have no idea how many FPS. :p

actually that usually isnt the case. they just fire up a game at a certain spot and they "think" the whole game is like that. the ones that are honest will come back and admit it. also what they usually call max isnt max and what they call smooth usually isnt very smooth by most peoples standards either. I have seen people come back and say things like "15-20fps is fine to me".
 
I agree with the "they do it to piss you off"

Used to work in an office that on slow days one of my coworkers would just find some random forum and post flamebait up to garner responses to read and laugh about. He was a damn professional at it, make a near respectable post with just enough controversy in 15 minutes that would generate enough reading material to amuse himself with over the next several hours.

alot of times they run really low resolutions, so you always have to asked them what resolution are you running it at.

yeah 90% of the time people silly enough to make ridiculous claims are running archaic resolutions like 800x600 or 1024x768. still their numbers usually dont even come close to panning out.

also the other day on here somebody with an 8800gtx claimed to run Crysis maxed on very high settings. he had a 30 inch monitor and seem to claim he was running it at native res. I told him he could not do that at 2560 or even 1920 with an 8800gtx and he said "For all these years I've apparently lived in a fantasy world, with a fantasy monitor and game set-up."

thats the kind of BS that I dont understand. anyone with half a brain knows thats not possible.

+1, most people just don't know what they are talking about. They also want to believe they have good hardware.

To be fair, I built a super cheap PC for a friend last year with an 8400 GS and a opteron 180 @ stock. It ran wow at 30 FPS average at 1024 x 768 with mid to high settings. It is not THAT bad of a card.

it is if you try to play most current fps. the 8400gs is barely playable on low to med settings in games like Fallout 3 and such.

Then let them play FO3 and games and such at low settings. They are only kidding themselves, arent fooling most of us, and pissing you off.

I disagree. I felt it was done very well. First he cleverly used this "buddy" of his as the scapegoat, then proceeded to validate his arguement against the 4870x2 by attempting to discredit his "buddy" in other daily situations, while overall implying his "buddy" is an idiot for thinking the 4870x2 is better. Very clever. Never seen it before.

Okay first of all this dude that added me on Steam friends, never said he was my buddy(I like how you assume that too). 2nd I wasn't trying to create any type of argument about a GTX 295 vs 4870x2 it's clear they have their strengths and weaknesses. So, yes I do think this guy is an idiot for thinking the 4870x2 is just flatly a BETTER videocard than the GTX 295 not only because of that but because of his claims to make the card he owns is THAT much better.

And now, what you can do is, hop off these nuts. I have a feeling i'm being flame baited myself
 
Hey, Im sure you all add inches to parts of your bodies as well. Its human nature to boast, even bluff, until proven to be an asshat. I would say that much of the PC marketing hype engine doesn't help either by putting out products that are the 'next big thing' and make huge claims yet really aren't worth it in the end... Killer NIC anyone? Hey, its a great idea, dont get me wrong... if you KNOW what to expect out of it... but its not going to boost the speed of your ISP or something.

wow you really need some help. what goes in the forums means nothing to any of my friends and family. besides gaming I really have no use for most of the drama and nonsense that people spread on the net or anywhere else for that matter. perhaps you typing all of that made you feel superior too I guess. :rolleyes:

anyway the point was when people make ridiculous claims like their 8400gs can run a game maxed other people that know even less about hardware may buy into it. I am an analytical and factual person and dont just pull stuff out of my ass. I do a lot of benchmarking and testing of games on various system because I find it interesting. I like helping people but idiots posting nonsense only hinders that.
 
When people tell me they get 397 fps at max specs in cod4 with their 8600gt, I start telling them how my 5870x4 gets upwards of 2000fps, and in crysis it gets 60fps at with aa on. Trying to convince idiots on the internet is akin to trying to get through a brick wall with your head, it's near impossible and you have a massive headache afterward. by the way my 7800gtx can......
