Who's Going Mini-ITX?

So I've been trying to contact companies about their immediate future plans for mini-itx boards and it doesn't look good.

We basically have Intel, DFI, Zotac, Jetway, and maybe Asus making mini-itx boards. Of those only DFI and intel has come out with one supporting a current gen chipset. No AM3 to be found.

So the question is...do you think they will come out with one sometime soon? I've already heard Gigabyte won't but am unsure about Asus and Zotac and Jetway are never promising.

Thoughts?
 
i went to mini itx and then back to matx only reason for that is lack of motherboard options and powersupplys along with cooling problems

did you have cooling problems with the SG05 or SG06?

sg05 was the problems , tried various heatsinks and best one was geminii . zotac motherboard failed while testing in windows still sits in closet waiting for me to decide what to do with all this i bought

MITX for nearly every build, here.( exception: folding)

An old Via with a c3, all the way to a zotac ion dual core. About... Seven systems so far?

Think it is tough enough for people to downsize to mATX, due to cooling and accessory card concerns, mITX is too limiting for both. mATX even is capable of supporting Crossfire/SLI as well.

Personally, I could have survived with flexATX or a 3 slot motherboard, using some combination of single or double slot video card, internal/external sound card and internal/external TV tuner card. 3 is probably ideal for most people, allowing them to use a 2 slot vid card and one accessory card.

Either way, mITX may be supercute, but practically it's difficult in today's age of 1KW PSUs, 2 slot vid cards and 2lb heatsinks. I'm all for CPU makers switching to a race for energy efficiency, since the speed improvements are no longer as noticeable like they were when I first started overclocking.
 
I'm pretty keen on turning to mITX for my first build actually, I study in one city, family lives in another city, I couldn't bare leaving my PC in either cities with out me.
 
Until they can make high wattage PSUs in miniature size, I just can't leave MSI x58m. PSU / Videocard's dimension kills it for me.

This may be true but the trend is obvious for almost every user. mATX seems to be more and more the standard with the enthusiast crowd. The reasons you give are the same ones the ATX folks gave a few years ago for not going mini-itx. I don't think SLi and Crossfire will be practical or needed in the future....we will see.

The real question comes, when will other mobo companies get to mITX. I felt that if DFI was doing it already that others would be jumping in as well but this hasn't panned out! DFI was a little late to the mATX party a few years ago.
 
Something like the lain-li but with a 120mm fan grill placement so you could use a corsair water cooler and an intake fan to feed a graphics card would be perfect and allow a decently powered build.
 
My next pc build will be Mini itx! Cant wait for the dfi board to come out, hope it has some good overclocking. I already bought an H50 for cooling, just need some one to make a bomb mini itx case that I like, hopefully lian li will release there new mitx case. Just need a 5850, core i5, dfi mitx board, got the corsair 450w psu and I think that should be a nice mini gaming rig.

Also, Steeve how is the sffclub and store coming? I would like to buy my case, mobo from you. And if you got the i5 by then, I will also purchase that from there.

I still like DTX better, but Intel threw their wieght behind ITX a while back....


And AMD behind DTX...


EIther way, DTX has two expansion slots, and HP used to use them in their HP Slimline designs, before cheaping out for a limited mATX board (covered up slots).
 
Mini-ITX is all I plan to use. I just setup a NAS for data storage and I would never pay the kind of money that's needed for SLI so the form factor works for me perfectly. I bet we'll see a ton of announcements in the beginning of 2010. Companies love moving to a new form factor since you have to get all new parts, case, power supply, etc.
 
Definately going m-itx...but as of right now, i have a couple of case concerns(hurdles) to overcome. I would like to use a larger video card to fire two 24" monitors without any problem. I've been thinking the 5770 might fit the bill as a minimum.

I'd also need to be able to fit a power supply that is adequate enough to power the video card...and the case choices just aren't there, but I'm sure something will be coming out soon that fit's the bill...

So, pretty much waiting around to see what Mattinv comes up with for his m-itx case design, will probably also take a close look at that PCQ-08 from Li Li or might just build my own out of acrylic...

m-itx first build will be next week. ordered a cheap $25 case for a c7d setup that I got from a friend. board has a pci-e x16 slot, and will house a pci-e sas controller, and act as an iSCSI target server for my dev ESX cluster. i could see m-itx for purpose-built machines, but not for my main rig. that's just getting ready to go from full tower to mATX, thanks to the Lan Gear guys.
 
The problem with these SFF types is the scarcity of motherboards... I would love a MITX system that supports the latest AMD CPUs and the latest ATI GPUs, but they don't even have those for Micro ATX.

AMD CPU = a no go, so far, as no true AM3 ITX mobo is out, yet.
There is a promising 1156 ITX board from DFI, though (for ITX i5/i7 [860] setups).

For ITX and PCIe16 (for the GPU), that's limited down to a very few - including Zotac's LGA775 ITX w/ PCIe16

Yea, it's a no go for the latest LGA 1366 Intel as well.... there is just no real development for high end ITX boards (and even mATX is sparse).

probably because of the power requirements (phases of power, physical circuitry strength on smaller boards, etc).

Just like there are no low profile GTX275 cards, but there are LP GTS250 cards.

not everyone needs a 2 slot video card and a quad-core cpu.

I'm waiting for the new 32nm i5s to come out with integrated graphics, then I will switch to mITX. I may opt for a low-profile discreet gpu, but really all I play is quake live.

honestly my biggest issue is the sound card, currently on a m-audio pci card, will have to get a usb or optical dac as I do require better than onboard.

Not everybody needs one, true.

But some of us do like higher end, small systems (me!)

On the other hand, for HTPC purposes, a SFF/ITX system is *just* perfect.

I think it's kind of a bogus reason. Really now, other then a video card what other expansion cards are going into 99% of systems? Nearly everything is intergrated more and more into the mobo nowadays.

TV tuners? Build an HTPC or even an ATX/MATX based WHS/media server. They also make external tuners and networked tuners.
 
i'm very impressed with the development of technology though, the audio chip/lan chip and north/south bridge chips are steadily getting smaller and smaller, more and more can fit on a standard board.
yes, chips may get bigger, it would be for the better (or more powerful)
