im starting a poll on this...im curious as to how many are actually running a licensed copy of windows...PLEASE USE THE POLL ONLY, I WANT ANONYMOUS RESULTS

Considering that admitting to this is against forum rules I'm not sure where your going with this...

I smell a thread lock.

edit: -eh maybe no lock, I'd just be careful what I'd admit to...

legal

I use the corperate edition (real CD with no activation)

yeppers....I use 3 liscensed copies of WinXP Pro at home. Got them for free from my employer. I have four more still to use.

Store bought Home upgrade edition.

Store bought Home full version for my other 'puter.

Legal is the ONLY way one should go.

WO WO WO dont respond to my thread just use the poll...i want anonymous results

I might not buy a lot of my programs but I all ways purchase my OS not doubt.

I do for my work machine obviously. You should include that your work pc or when your Windows XP is paid for by another does not count....or if you are using any pirated version on any system.

I don't see any good coming of this, or any reason to even start such a poll....perhaps you should read the threads more concerning XP and pirating, instead of bringing it out into the open?

it was meant as a poll and a poll only notice my original post its people like you that brought it out into the open by replying and telling me your opinion...USE THE POLL

You misunderstood my comments and others. Why rehash this issue when there's an extremely long thread discussing the same exact thing? Search is your friend!

why do you care that i brought it back up??? are you paying for the space on this server??? or am i just wasteing your time, ohh yea i forgot i held a gun to your head and MADE you respond to my thread....

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but we get tired of seeing someone create a new thread discussing the SAME DAMN TOPIC that is already being discussed, purely due to the sheer lack of effort on the OP's part. Carry on with your thread that's toeing the line....don't cry and PM a mod when your thread's locked.

Nothing is anonymous on the internet. Even though we cannot see who responed to the poll, I would imagine there is a log somewhere in which someone could see exactly who voted and which way. Regardless of how anonymous you think this is, people are still admitting to running illegal software, and I don't believe that is something the operators of this forum really want to deal with.

i was curious because im writing a paper about it for my stats class that along with some other polls im gonna start in alittle while.

I have a feeling that the data you gather from this poll will be horrid as far as stats go. It will be completely unrepresentative of any population due to the fact that most people would probably be unwilling to break the forum rules and admit to illegal activity. Unless, of course, your paper is about the unscientific nature of internet polls, in which case these horribly skewed results might work quite nicely.

this is just the start of somthing that is actually very similar to what you just said...lol

Less than 100 people in a poll about something so widely used (computers) will leave you with such a huge margin of error that the poll would be worthless.

I find it really pathetic that there are so many who don't use legal copies. That's really ghey.

I voted Yes.

However, I can vote NO as well.

YES: XP through College. Go being a student/the son of a faculty memeber. :D
2K -- Through Dad (College)

NO:
Tried XP but Activation stuff was hard..but it all worked out in the end. See YES explaination.

College rules for Cheap/Free stuff. Its insanely cool.

im hoping alot more people will respond however it seems its becoming heavily biased especially after all the responses claiming how your gonna get screwed if you respond to this post...it would have been so much better if people would have just stuck to the poll.

Store bought and I have one from my University that I got cheap. The laptops have the Home version they came with.

wow hahaha thats pretty funny a bootlegged ukrainian copy of windows i bet thats real desirable
when i was formatting this one lady's computer and told her she had to buy XP if she wanted it (she was running ME) she told me her husband (who is in the army) picked one up for like 5 bucks in bangledesh or something. guess what it iwas? a very shitty quality paper copy of the windows XP booklet with a CD-R inside. i had to hold back my laughter

I have 6 legal copies of XP Pro, 1 XP Home, 1 Windows 98. I also have a legal copy of Office XP Pro and Photoshop 7.0. I feel that the people who develop this kind of software deserve to get paid.

QFT.

However I use my MSDN product keys for most of my work, excluding the license that came with my laptop. I've purchased quite a few licenses for what most would consider "expensive" products - If i'm going to use some software produdtively (ie. 3D Studio MAX, Photoshop) then surely it's only fair that the people that gave me the means to do so be credited for their efforts?

I bought my Copy of XP on newegg OEM with a peice of hardware... I just bought it tho not too long ago...

I was using corporate for ever tho

all my three pcs use legit copies... me loves the nice discounts for microsoft products from work...

wow...so far a lot more people say they use a legit copy than i woulda thunk.
That's because a lot more people are not stupid than those who are.

I think a lot of people did use illegal ones but since updating is not possible and you have so many other problems, people finally just bought real versions. If I had ever used an illegal one, I sure would have bought a retail one by now.

you know, when conducting research like that, you dont say to the patient "im going to change the wording now to see how you react" becuase that puts the person in consious awareness of it and it skews the results
