Who is Relic?

Short answer: He was our previous mod at our DC sub forum. He was also a great mod, so great that 3 new mods were needed to replace him. AFAIK he was also one of the earliest members of the DC crowd, one of the founders.

You have to wait for someone who has been here for 2 years or more for the long answer. I only was here 2 months before he left. :(

Assuming that this question is not philosophical in nature, relic was one of the founders of this team. He has since vanished, and like his name suggests - (An object kept for its association with the past; a memento) - that is about all he is at this point.

Did I get the right answer? :)

Do a search for relic in this subforum. For now, that's about the only way you will be able to understand who relic is. It's not the same as meeting him in person (which I never have) but it will give you a good idea.

I will warn you, you will have a lot of threads to read through as he was an avid poster.

Relic was a hell of a bartender too, along with all the other things I'm sure you've heard. ;)

Was there any reason given as to why he left, or is that strictly confidential/unknown information?

Relic just started to be absent from the forums more and more until one day he never returned. Sometimes real life supercedes even the forums :)

Unless your name is Lethal or MajorDomo that is ;)

I've seen a pic of relic topless wearing a doo-rag. It was not a pretty sight.

Well stated indeed.

Before this turns into a “relic eulogy” please keep in mind relic still has 34 machines folding 24/7 for the [H].

One day he will pop back in and surprise us all ;) :D

I believe you need to change that to eulogy.

And I agree. He's not gone and I'm sure he'll be back and probably play one hell of a joke on us. It's just a matter of time.

I also haven't forgotten about the machines. I see him crunching away yet and wonder when it will stop. I'm not sure I've seen someone disappear for this long and still have all their machines still running.

Hopefully that day will be sooner rather than later. relic was/is a great guy. :)

Because he used to like playing with little ducks after he drank mojo...

ERRR.. nevermind. I don't know :)

Thank you, so he is a very respected person in the folding world. That is an accolade & then some. :)

Thanks K*

Um... yeah. Why wouldn't you believe us?

Yes, he's been gone for a while and the place hasn't been the same since. We want him back as soon as he's able to step into the forums again.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think we have been doing just fine without him.

The [H]orde is based on the team, not just any one single person. Whlie he may have contributed a great deal. this is the [H]orde Team. not the relic team.

--I'm not saying I don't value what he has done, and he will be welcomed back with open arms, its just, for the time being, we have been doing great, so lets not cry in our milk...

Just something I've thought of-

Who here has never read a Relic post (as in "live" posting if you follow me)?

I for one joined the team after Relic went away, just curious who else.

Call me post-Relic or something like that. I think there are a few other active folders in this group.

Me as well, I really didn't start actively posting until around January after relic had went away. All I have to go on is what I've heard since.

Same here. I've been folding for about 3 years if I remember right, but I didn't start following the DC forum until late last year or this year. I personally still don't see what all the hype is about...if he's got time to maintain 30+ machines folding, you think he'd have time to pop in and post at least one message in the past year.

I don't speak on Relic's behalf, but I think that he would be the first to agree that no one folder is THE team, that the [H]ard team is a great bunch of peeps, that the slaying of the beast is what matters, however, I am beginning to get a sick feeling in my stomach over the tone of the last several threads.

Relic has 1,691,000+ points. He has folded over 26,000 wu's. He makes mojo. He finds fully-functioning dually's in his closet, he has given away more folding parts than anybody here, he is the [H]ard-bard of the team, he is a diplomat (has always been diplomatic, it is not something he learned along the way) and is an inspiration to those of us that were fortunate enough to have become acquainted with him before RL (real-life) got the best of his time.

Relic, among others, is my inspiration. So please, if you don't have anything nice to say about him, don't say anything (in this thread).

QFT except you were far more polite then I might have been. Thanks GG ;)

Last time I try and make small talk...

:)

Here's a more monutmental record than us killing the gap from second to first in the time we did. Twice in one week, marty isn't the one causing the trouble.

Anyway, I agree completely with Gwilly (oh, the horror). For those of you that weren't around when relic was here won't be able to fully understand what he brought to this place. There was just a "feeling" that was different. I remember a few times when things were going slow and there was virtually nothing going on in here and relic would pop in with a new poem or just some sort of line that would get people fired up again. The atmosphere would be completely different after something like this.

In my opinion, relic made up a lot of the "soul" of this team. He was not all of it and we obviously are around and still have a "soul" that is going strong. There is just an absence that is around that many new people don't realize because they have never really known anything different. There is nothing wrong with that; I just wish he would come back around so people would know what it was like.

I miss his mostly weekly sermons he liked to do. Reading the posts now just isn't the same as also feeling the atmosphere of the time. As marty mentioned, there is something missing when reading the threads now than if you had participated in them when they were "live".

relic was never the team and I believe is proud of where the team is now and how we've kept on slugging it out. The points and competition were something for him (obviously we have the relic trophy), but the driving force was always about the cure and this was plain as day.

There are always people that just strike you as something different. For many of us that were around when relic was still "live" here, that's what he is to us. His manner and joking were always a catalyst to get something started. Sure, it wasn't always the best thing (can we say off topic posts?) for the forum at the time but it was definitely fun. :D

I lurked for a long time and started folding before I signed up for an account, part of the reason I started was because of Relic. He was here for quite awhile after I started, then he left, then he came back, and then he left again. He's been gone for a good period of time now but I get the feeling he'll be back someday. It also wouldn't surprise me if he read the forums quite often just to see what's going on. Lurking takes up far less time than being an active poster, much less a mod. I suspect that when he feels like he has the time again he'll surprise the hell out of all of us with a return [H]ardBard thread or Slap-a-Moose gauntlet. In the mean time, patience grasshoppers. ;)

Double Ditto. I had too.

I only new Relic the " Bard " for maybe 6-months...one Sunday we had a verse contest making-up a Ditty to sing...it was hysterical. :p

On my 50th birthday he had folks guessing what I looked like...LOL. So Phantom, it's not just you!

He talked me into giving all my spare PC parts away to folders and ship them here and there.. and Fold with my one puny cpu. Well, I just started to again, I was away for awhile.

There are reasons people go away....so don't judge until you know. ;)
