Go to touchpad settings and turn off tapping = clicking. The "downside" is you have to use the hard buttons to click... the upside is that you don't accidentally tap it and start typing wherever your cursor happened to be on the screen! It's the first thing I turn off on a new laptop.

do youhave a pointer stick in the keyboard itself ?

plug in a wireless mouse or something. tell the driver to disable the internal pad when external mouse is present.
