Which system will win? (benchmarking) 3dmark vantage

basic system

lets assume they have the same OC on the i7 920 D0, same mems, same mobo, same psu difference will be on the graphic cards.


A) 3way SLI gtx280 + gtx260 (physx)

B) gtx295 + gtx260 (physx)

C) 5970 + gtx260 (phsyx)

D) Quad SLI gtx295 (not sure if he will put a physx card yet)

going with the 5970 and physX card just because the first one sounds retarded with that many cards.. and the GTX 295 is slower then 2 GTX 280's so thats even dumber of a choice..

I'd guess 5970. The 295 is approximately 2x 275 and Tom puts the 5870 (slightly more than half of a 5970) on the same level. I'd say that the 3x 280 would obviously be better than a single 295, but wouldn't scale as well as the dual-GPU 5970.

Heh, it's amusing to see a poll where the 295 is the slowest option.

Win at what? Power consumption? Heat? Number crunching? Max FPS? Game? Benchmark? if so which one? Which DX level 9/10/11? What motherboard are they running on?

they have tried and just keep failing at it.. you can still run a nvidia card with an ati card.. not sure if they cracked the 197.13 drivers yet.. but it worked fine up to 196.21..

How about two 5870's in crossfire and a GTX 260 for physX? I don't think you need anything more than a GTS 250 or 9800GTX+ for physx anyways. Two 5870's will own the 5970, since that is basically just two 5850's.

There is an overclocking competition here in a few months and there are 3-5people here with that kind of setup.

oc tools, superpi, cinebench, 3dmark vantage, winrar etc...

(how can i update the poll on this post) there might be someone going to do quad sli 295

First off, don't even go with the GTX 280. Go for the 285.

I believe the 3 way SLI GTX 285 will beat the quad SLI GTX 295, due to the fact that the GTX 295 is basically 2 underclocked GTX 275.

If he's going to burn that type of money, just go for dual HD5870's, or maybe even 3 of them. Or go for 2 HD5970's. FYI, most games don't scale well with more than 3 GPU's, so take that into consideration. What motherboard is he going to get that can support 4 graphics cards in SLI for option A anyways? The EVGA Classified 4-way SLI board?

yes, he already have the 3x280's on hand, and hes going for the evga classified mobo to add a physx card.

mine is a asus rampage 2 extreme + a gtx295 (my vantage score is around 26k++) ( i might sell this to a friend if me get a 5970 might get me a chance of winning)

Hmm, ok. I say just put the 280's under water-cooling and then feel free to overclock like crazy. Apparently they overclock much better than the 275's or 280's when provided with adequate cooling, especially since they can change their vcore by software. That's what I've read anyways, that the GTX 275 will overclock better than the GTX 280 on air, but the 280 will do much better on water. You'll probably need at least a 3x120mm radiator to cool off those three cards though.
