Which setup will last longer?

I am trying to upgrade my mom's computer, and this is what I have as spare equipment to get her a better machine I need something that will last her a while, and this is what I have:

P67 Sabertooth
4GB DDR3 1.65V **Hopefully will undervolt just fine** (I have 8GB of 1.5V if absolutely necessary)

or

Xeon L5520
12GB ECC RAM

So I need either a 1155 CPU, or a 1366 mobo.

I can get a i3-3220 to throw in that Sabertooth for $80, or I have been offered the following for $130+trading the P67 and RAM:

Intel i7 950
Gigabyte X58-UD5 Rev 2.0
12GB Corsair XMS3

Which option is best for longevity? I am trying to keep this upgrade as cheap as possible.

Well I don't know what your Mom will be doing on her PC, but I do know that my Mom wouldn't be able to tell a difference between either one of those setups. With that being said, I would go with the cheapest solution which IMHO would be the 1155 route. Not only will it not cost you much, but should you need to replace faulty/bad hardware you'll be better off finding used 1155 specific hardware at a much cheaper cost than 1366.

What will keep her PC running longer will be a routine cleaning of all the spyware/junkware she'll install. At least, that's the case with my Mom.

Sorry for not being more specific on usage. Yes, our Mom's probably hang out in the same circles. There should be a "Mom" option for how a computer is utilized.

Facebook/Facebook games, email, web browsing, genealogy, etc. i.e. light usage. She's actually pretty good about malware, but having a Malwarebytes Pro lifetime subscription helps there some, I'm sure.

Cheapest option is the name of the game.

Then just go the Sabertooth route with the COre i3 3220 and 4GB to 8GB of DDR3 RAM. That should fit her needs just fine.

If you really want to make sure that the system is still "snappy" for years, get her a SSD for the boot drive if you haven't already.

In the works! Just gotta break her of the "defragment" habit.
