I'm ready to replace this loud PCP&C 510W with something quieter. Here is what I'm durrently looking at, all of which are made by Seasonic from what I've heard.

My system specs should be something like this:

Antec P180
Intel E6600 @3.2GHz
2GB DDR2
7 x Seagate 320GB
2 x Seagate 160GB
1 x WD Raptor
ATI X1900XT
X-Fi sound card
Broadcom RAID card
DVD RW

PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W
pros: can get a custom harness (huge advantage), has a single 12V rail, comes sleeved
cons: single 80mm fan for cooling so quietness is questionable, 7.1" long, most expensive, especially with the $50 custom harness

Corsair HX620
pros: 120mm fan for cooling, 3 positive reviews, modular cables, 5 year warranty, made with P180 in mind
cons: no custom harness available, not sure if "forceflex" cables will allow addition of snap on SATA connectors

Antec Trio 650W
pros: 120mm fan for cooling - no reason it wouldn't be quiet, available today, rated at 50 C
cons: no custom harness, no sleeving, no modular cables, only 4 SATA connectors

Seasonic M12
pros: 120mm fan for cooling - no reason it wouldn't be quiet, modular cables, available in 700W
cons: no custom harness, not currently available, limited info

One thing about the M12 and Antec, the cables aren't sleeved at all, which looks ugly, but it allows you to use those snap on SATA connectors to add connections.

What are your upgrade plans? If you are sticking with the x1900xt for a while I don't see why your looking for a 650W+ PSU. Something that is 500W should work fine. Enermax Liberty 500W and Seasonic S12 500W are my top 2 for you.

well because I have 11 hard drives and I don't want to have to buy another PSU for 3-4 years

Current rig looks like it needs a combined 26A+ on the 12V rail(s).
I got 48.18A on the 12V+ following the guide in your sig, but that's with a few additions:

E6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz
Floppy drive
X1900XTX instead of X1900XT to leave room for overclocking
Soundblaster with front bay
6 x 120mm fans

shows 584 Watts
584 * 0.9 / 12 * 1.1 = 48.18

going back to the exact specs in my OP, still shows 452W

With 600W of that on the 12V rail!

It's modular. It doesn't need a "custom harness."

Have you seen the cables? Why would you sleeve them??? That would look WORSE.

Is this a public service announcement from my friendly PCP&C shill? ;)

Just teasing. Your list is backwards in my opinion.

It's less accurate when you have a lot of hard drives, because less power is taken from the +12V rail and more from the +5V.

What is your upgrade plan for videocards?

Point taken. It's in line with the other units. OP updated.

A custom harness is still a huge advantage, especially when you need 10 SATA connectors.
The cables are also the length you specify which makes neat wiring so much easier.

Do you think it would be possible to add some of these connectors?

The main reasons I like PCP&C are the unmatched performance of the Trubo-Cool line and the custom harness option.

I've updated my OP with some more pros/cons I've discovered. I'm strongly considering the Corsair.

What do you have against the Silencer?

Probably something along the lines of X1900XT > second generation DX10 card > ??

The Turbocools are a different OEM, remember... better performance than the Silencers ;)

Yeah I know, but it still makes you associate their name with the best.
Who makes the Turbo-Cools anyway?

And hello from Tulsa :)

Win-Tact does.

The Corsair comes with more cables than connectors because they include long and short cables.

The crimp on connectors would work nicely for any power supply. I love the 90 degree angle power connection when running multiple drives stacked on top of one another.

I was going to add some of those to the FSP 600W I had until someone made me a killer deal on the ST56ZF ;)

Something else I've been wondering about - why does Seasonic produce their own brand and OEM for so many other companies? Seems like they're competing against themselves.

Who else does Win-Tact OEM for?

Yeah that's another thing I like about it.
90 degree connectors OWN. I just wasn't sure if they'd work with the "ForceFlex" cables because they looks kinda "thick" but it's hard to tell in pictures.

I'm more than likely going to get the Corsair, it seems to be the best overall package, and about $100 cheaper than the PCP&C with the custom harness. Any idea when it will be available?

The only PC power supplies Win-Tact makes are made for PCP&C. Win-Tact's primary focus for SMPS units are installed inside equipment.

The FlexForce (is there another name for these???) wires aren't thicker. They're the same. You just need to split them apart with a knife to crimp the SATA's on.

I actually did the same thing on my old X-Finity PSU.

Money ;)

As JG said, Win-Tact has no market presence. They just build stuff for other companies.

Ribbon cable works.

These will work with the Corsair HX series, but keep in mind that our cables are not color coded so be extra careful to make sure you follow the orientation of the existing SATA connectors so you don't hook it up wrong.

Also, the HX620 has a capacity for 8 drives right out of the box, so if you're going to add more SATA connectors, I wouldn't recommend more than 4 on any one cable, just to be safe.

Should work though, I make no promises as to warranty on cable returns. :D

As to availability, they should be available within a week or so if everything goes well. We were originally shipping last week but something came up that we had to fix regarding the certification labels, so once we get the new labels in we'll be sending them out to everybody.

Thanks for the info and a very valuable tip.

Any possibility of ordering more of a certain cable or getting custom cable lengths?

And do you know when the HX620 will be available?

As of right now I don't think we'll be offering custom cable lengths, but we will work on the replacement cable and extra cable stuff.

Keep an eye out next week or so, towards the end. Sorry for the delay, we just have to get the new stickers past QA and once that's done they'll ship.

Another vote for the Corsair...I just don't see any downsides with that psu. Modular with flexforce cables (awesome for tucking out of the way on the Ultra I have) and the performance/quietness to match. How can you go wrong?

edit- I see you already chose the Corsair. :p
