I'm building a new computer in the coming month. I'm not sure as to which hard drive I should get. I usually get Western Digital drives or Samsung but I wouldn't mind a different one for a change

Which one of these should I get?

SATA 80gb Seagate 8mb cache

SATA 80gb Maxtor 8mb cache

SATA 80gb Western Digital 8mb cache

I'm not really a big fan of Maxtor but I'll go with the general opinion here :D

Thanks.

If you want a little more speed for more noise, get the WD. Otherwise, get the Seagate. I have 2 WDs and I love them except for the noise. I'm going to switch to Seagate.

I would actually probably go with the Maxtor one. Its not quite as fast, but should be a little bit queter.

Although, another thing to look at is the warranty length. Well, if you care about that anyway... :D

You really should throw the Samsung in there. It's a good bit quieter than any of those, even the Seagate; besides, the performance differences among these four drives is only going to be noticeable in benchmarks, not your own subjective experiences.
