We need to pull out a 1000w Coolmax out of a customers machine because it's too loud, all in all I agree with the guy. It's a 4gb Q6600, GTS 640 setup and we're at a tossup between 3 different PSU's. Looking at

A - Ocz GameXstream OCZ700GXS SLI

B - Corsair CMPSU-750TX

or

C - Enermax Infinity Ein720AWT

Quality first and foremost, although Quiet is just as important for this guy. Price isn't too much of a worry and if there are any PSU's in that 700-800w range out there that are better and, once again, quieter than those listed PLEASE list em!

Ditch the GameXStream. It has excessive out of spec ripple, voltage fluctuations, at high loads. Though most systems won't reach those high loads, why pay for something that has the potential to screw up your system/

Oh and I recommend getting the Corsair.

Doesn't that Corsair model have ripple problems too? Granted it's not out of spec, but it's no 550VX either.

The 750 is still within spec, I wouldn't rule it out on that alone.

Here's jonnys review of the enermax infiniti

For the price difference, higher output on the 12volt rail, and the higher temp rating, I say go for the corsair. But again, if you want a modular psu, go with the enermax. It's not bad, but I still go with the corsair.

Just reread what you said about price not being important, I'd still go with the corsair.

There's a reason for the spec. Components are designed to handle that spec, and anything above it can shorten the lifespan of your components. To what degree is debatable, but it does occur.

To use ripple on the +12V spec for example, 120mV is the maximum spec as of ATX 2.2, last I checked. This means that anything that goes past that significantly could shorten the lifespan of, say, a video card plugged into that power supply.

Now, realistically, we're probably not going to use the video card or motherboard anywhere near as long as it's designed to be used. But you pay for a product, you should get the features you want most.

The TX750 was at 90mV on the +12V during Paul's torture test

That's still over 30% from the maximum spec.

Thanks for the info guys! I recommended him the Corsair, but apparently he had his mind set on the Enermax. I'll definately be looking at one of those Corsairs for the next big power builds we get. Thanks guys!

Have you looked at the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750watt?

It has the power and stability that you are looking for. Might be worth a look or at least some consideration. IMO

Will he know if you put in a different PSU? :p
