Which Mechanical Keyboard?

I'd say try checking out geekhack.org. I'm sure they have guides on how to fix a squeaky switch or two.

Bleh geekhack is giving that attack site warning (has been for a little bit now). The rosewill boards don't come with a tool to remove the keys. Is there something special about the way the spacebar comes off?

My Rosewill RK-9000BR came in today, and so far I'm really liking it. The only other mechanical keyboard I have is the ABS M1 with the pseudo-Black Alps switches. I find the Rosewill board to be less fatiguing to type on, probably because the audible click isn't as annoying and tactile feedback feels smoother.

I ended up getting a Leopold keyboard, with MX Reds. After reccomendations from people and personal research thats what ended up suiting me.

Anything with Cherry Browns. Blues aren't silent, but I love mine. Blacks/Reds are linear and therefore IMO are not worth buying for typing. If you go mech get a switch with tactile feedback.

hmm.. my das professional's h key is now feeling really weird. it was actually sticking earlier but after I used the keyboard for a few says it has improved.

I own a Filco Ninja Majestouch-2, it's amazing, and I'm thinking about getting a 2nd keyboard. Is there anything more silent than Cherry Browns? What about prices? Can't find anything below $80...

Out of curiosity can you tell me a membrane dome keyboard, how does it compare to Red & Black switches? Which is it closer to in feel, red ( less force) or black (slightly more force)?

MX Reds. No tactile feedback and linear. You'd have to adjust your typing to only graze the keys rather than bottoming out in order to mitigate noise. Need to also up your budget to $90-100 to be looking at Noppoo Choc Minis/CM Storm Quick Fire.

Elitekeyboards still has Leopolds with red switches in stock, but then you're in the $120-130 range shipped.

Never mind, I'm typing on a normal key at the moment and I can already tell what the difference between this pos and my mechanical keyboard is. This brings me to the question why would you want a mechanical keyboard with linear switches? It doesn't make a lot of sense when you can stick to cheap rubber dome and keep replacing it every year or so when the rubber starts feeling mushy.

Oh yes and one more thing I forgot to mention. I just did the typing test @ http://speedtest.10-fast-fingers.com/ and my WPM is very similar but the error factor is huge. I really can't tell if I have pressed a key or just skimped over it. We will see if I can get a cheap keyboard with red switches i might use it and sell it later for a laugh.

After getting my first mechanical the other day. My typing speed is about the same Maybe slightly higher or at least slightly more consistently higher. Then again, on my macbook or hp laptop I can type just as fast. My error rate hasn't really changed. At this point it's a matter of processing letters and words fast enough that's limiting me :D

I have a Steelseries 6Gv2 and recently bought a Leopold tenkeyless with Cherry MX clear switches. I absolutely love them both. That said, I prefer the higher resistance switches. Some people prefer the browns and even reds. I owned a Filco with browns and eventually sold it, way too touchy for me and I made more typing/gaming errors than I was used to.

Switch preference is HIGHLY subjective, what may be good for someone may be wrong for another. Test drive if possible. I had to do a bit of trial and error myself before determining that stiffer switches were better for me.

Elite Keyboards is selling Leopolds with literally every Cherry switch at the moment for only $100-$110, reds and clears included. Very much worth checking out: http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold

If you're set on Cherry blacks then the Steelseries 6Gv2 is again worth checking out, no-frills gamer keyboard that is built like a tank.

I just wish that elitekeyboards had included maybe a USB port or something. I've always found that handy on my das.

Speaking of which, I may be getting an exchange to the clicky variant as my h key it sticking.
it comes and goes. strange.

Elitekeyboards doesn't make the keyboards they have no control over the inclusion of usb ports.

I got 4 on each of my monitors, so usb ports aren't a necessity for me. I have more than I know what to do with to be honest. Wish I had usb 3 though!

Anyone know anything about that Azio, the thing that I find interesting is the removable number pad, I like number pads but I dont like keyboards to be large, so my favorite it compacts. However compact keyboards with NKRO are hard to find mechanical.

Also do the rosewill keyboards have NKRO and low input lag? If they go on sale they look to be a great buy.

this may help on the Azio http://youtu.be/CxcL6m02YwQ

I can't stand this conceded little douche and think his unboxings suck on multiple levels, but
this seems to be the only footage of the Mech4 around. I think Azio had the right approach, but they failed miserably on the execution. I just can't get past it's looks...

Really digg'n my Filco Ninja Majestouch-2 (Cherry Browns). The Rosewill RK-9000 (Blues) I'll be taking to work. While it's also nice, the Filco is a much more refined product and just plain feels more solid/nicer to type on. It also looks better with the side printed keycaps and the keys have a more subdued tone to them with the cherry brown switches. Blues are definitely more "clicky" with a higher pitched chatter. If you are on the fence as to a mechanical keyboard, I can highly recommend the Filco. It's a quality keyboard. (Yes, the escape key is not stock - got it from Elite Keyboards)

gotcha.
wish there were more keyboards that incorporated that design. Or heck - even media keys. I don't need or want 50 macro keys but media keys are nice.
