Hey so I have a friend who is trying to game on integrated graphics. He's a big starcraft fan and is looking forward to starcraft 2, but I told him he should probly upgrade his gpu before it comes out. His gaming is mostly console, so all this card has to do is run starcraft 2. so which of these is better?

EVGA 8400GS - $37
BFG 9400 GT - $52
BFG 9500 GT - $90

Other suggestions are welcome, but keep in mind that his psu does not have any pcie plugs nor any molex. And I kinda lean away from ati, cause his cooling sucks and the last ati card I had burned out rather quick
 
none of those. the 4670 will do much better. if your going to Nvidia look at the 9600 GSO or GT. (need a PCIe power though)

for what your describing the 4670 is pretty much it hands down. about 70 dollars AR. the 4650 is about 20 bucks cheaper but reflects that
 
I don't think it will make a difference as the memory bandwidth probably isn't big enough to make a difference with 1GB. If you shop around you can get better deals on the 9500GT and 9600GT. I saw the 9500GT for $50 and the 9600GT for $65 the other day AR. I'd probably get that over the 4670. Also, the 4830 can be had pretty cheap, and that's the equivalent of the 9600GT.
 
I have no trouble finding good deals on nvidia cards, problem is with the ati. So would the 9500 gt suffice?

it might but it will be a big step down from the 4670. not worth it (to me at any rate) I would suggest you go with 4670. I didn't realize the cost difference in Canada.

the requirement here is no PCIe power cable needed. that rules out the 9600GT and the 3870 (other wise for what he needed the 3870 would have been perfect)
 
Starcraft comes out when, at earliest late 2009 right?
If hes only going to play starcraft 2, just buy it when it comes out.
You'll get a better card for the money than buying it now.

This sounds like some pretty good advice to me. SC1 will run on just about anything. I'd wait and see on SC2.

Can't...no PCIe power plug. I'm pretty sure the 4830 needs a 6-pin plug.

I agree about the Molex splitter...that's what I'd do if I thought the PSU could handle it.
 
i'd grab a 1 doller molex splitter and get the 9600gt

its silly to not just get splitter the card comes with the 6 pin adapter so just grab 2 splitters and then u got the power hook ups u need for the adapter.

the 9600gt is pretty low power doubt it would break just about anything power wise.
