Ill be ocing this to the furthest it can go so i dont really want to stick with the stock hsf. Im buying the rig through monarch and they can install one of these options:

Zalman CNPS7000B
TT a1770
TT a1772
TT CL-P0075 K450
TT TR2TT A4014

Ive never installed a hsf before, so thats why I am leaning to stick with monarch installing one of these.

But, if it isnt that hard, i can just purchase another one through newegg.

Do you guys have any reccommendations on hsfs on newegg? BTW, i dont want to go over $40.

Thanks,
jcll2002

BTW, the mobo is the DFI lanparty UT nforce4 ultra d

From those options, the Zalman. If you wanted something off newegg, try a Thermalright XP-90 or a Scythe Ninja.

i wouldnt order a high end heatsink from newegg, they tend to overprice them, places lik svc.com and jab-tech have better prices ;)

Thermalright XP 120 would do well. Add that with your choice of a high end 120mm fan. The fan choice depends on your choise of noise or cooling performance.

the thermalrights seem pretty expensive with the fact that you have to get a fan also.

Should i just go with the zalman and save myself the time/frustration of installing a hsf myself?

Also, can you guys link me up on the scythe ninjas?

I was in a similar situation to you. The zalmans are 'OK' performers, but you can do better. In your price range, look for the Thermalright XP-90 from jab-tech, should be about $35-40 delivered including a fan. It'll be quiter and cooler than the zalman. The Freezer64 isn't too bad either from what I hear.

I had a bit more cash than you and just (tonight) ordered the scythe ninja plus fan, which ended up at about $55-ish.

Oh, and don't order from the egg - they're overpriced for this stuff. svc, jab-tech, xoxide or coolerguys should all be cheaper than the egg.

I use the Scythe Ninja. Its freaking huge but works great. Opteron 165 from 1.8 to 2.9 and It idles at low 30s with a 75ish degree ambient and doesnt get much higher than mid forties in games.

Is that with a fan or without? Just curious. :p

Thats an amazing oc as well...

i mean is it worth all the "trouble" for someone whos never installed a hsf (even though id like to) to buy seperately and install it himself (xp90) when i can have the zalman installed for me for the same(probably less) price?

Also, if something goes wrong with my cpu, can monarch blame it on me because i installed the hsf myself? Im so paranoid

I wouldn't worry about screwing it up..Unless you're taking the heatspreader off, or using a "mobile" A64/Turion (which has no IHS), you would really have to be doing something crazy in order to screw up the CPU while installing an HSF..I'd venture to say that you'd probably crack the board from excessive bowing first, depending on the mounting mechanism used of course.

Ninja on main page @ jab-tech ..and pair it up with a black 120mm Yate Loon (on opposite side of the main page) if you don't want to go totally passive. $42 vs ~$65 for the Zalman 9500..
and j-t is a very good retailer, ships promptly, decent rates, and on top of it all put their butts on the line to give us [H]er's a killer sub-$200 (shipped) deal on Swiftech w/c kits recently - when they were still retailing @ $250+..Also they're out of OK, so no tax for those of us in CA, unlike ChiefValue/NewEgg, SVC, ClubIT, etal.

[edit] under ordering options on the ninja --- $4 for 1, $7.50 /2 for the Yate Loon's..even better price ($40/$43.50).

well, i have no other option than to purchase an hsf since im not going to go through monarch in the first place.

Ive been looking at the xp90 w/ the yate loon 120mm fan ($6 :D). Ill take a look at the ninja.

BTW, can i use this fan (2 of them of course) for an intake and on the cpu?

Hey, I'll let you know after I put my XP90 in this weekend. I've never used anything other than stock coolers, so it should be...ummm interesting. Another chance to mutter to myself and spend far too much time obsessing over a few degrees. The XP90 was about the only one that stood out. I like it's lack of heft. I sure don't want some 500 gram lump hanging off my motherboard...;-)

Yeah it's huge, but totally worth it, way better than a xp-90. Besides, doesn't the xp-90 cool about as well as the stock amd heatpipe hsf?
Just about, although it might be quieter with different combinations of fans while providing the same performance (I haven't looked closely at pics of the stock one to check out the fin separation, just saw that one article at Madshrimps that compared them).

I like my XP-90 a lot, but for the price right now I'd definitely got with a Scythe Ninja (unless space clearance is an issue).

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is very nice for the price as well, though a bit less suited for quiet operation than these other models (it's fins are more tightly packed, needs a fan that pushes a bit harder for good performance).

all i'll say is do NOT get a 7700. doesn't cool taht well and it's very audible at 5v. if i were to replace it, i would look at the ninja or xp120 (si120? whatever)

if that's a 120mm fan on the back of the case, it should fit easily.

yes, it is. I just didnt want to have to keep the window off or something because it was too big lol

If you're running an AMD board, all you have to do is remove the 2 screws off the black bracket, and replace w/ the provided bracket from Thermalright. Then you basically just clip it on and you're set.

(XP-90)

do you have to do that with the scythe?

I think im going to go with the scythe ninja + 120mm yate loon :D and another yate loon for the intake in my case and a lazer led :D

I think the ninja will fit on the standard retention bracket. I'll be able to tell you for sure on Friday though ;)
