Which Color Laser MFC

We have a budget of up to 1000 for a new MFC printer for our small. We need to replace our brother color laser printer and our brother MFC. The MFC died and the color laser is on it's last legs.

So, we thought we would consolidate and get a color laser MFC.

The brother MFC gets heavy usage as a copier. Mainly b/w when it's doing copies.

The main thing color gets used for is a small logo on proposals that we print out etc.

So, what would you guys recommend?
 
What's the average monthly volume of pages used when copying versus printing in black-and-white and/or in color?

Do you need features like built-in duplex printing or wireless connectivity?

How many people are going to use this printer?

Out of curiosity, what were the model numbers of your old laser printer and MFC?
 
We do about 1000 pages per month of printing about 1/4 of those have our color logo on it. Copying is maybe another 500 pages or so.

Duplexing would be a good feature to have. We would like wireless/wired networking but most seem to include that.

This would be for two or three main people that print.

I will have to get back to you on the model numbers. They are both 4 or 5 years old.

I'm trying to figure out if we should get a b/w laser all in one AND a color laser or just get a color/laser all in one.
 
Yeah model numbers of those printers would really help as it would tell us what kind of specs/performance your company is use to. In other words, it would suck if we recommended a printer that had a lot lower PPM than the older printers.
 
A person can pick up the top Brother color MFC (MFC-9970CDW) for $530 off of Amazon right now. That is their 30 ppm, color laser with duplexing, wired networking and wireless networking. Of course it has all of the scanner/copier functions as well.

I helped advise my wife's company on getting its slightly slower brother (MFC-9560CDW) a couple of years ago. It is a very similar model but is 25 ppm instead of 30. The 9970 is cheaper than I can find the 9560 right now, which makes the higher model a no brainer choice between the two. They have absolutely loved this printer. They are often in the 500-1000 page per month range with their printing, though they sometimes peak above that when a big report is being created. The one caveat I would point out is that the wireless network is wireless G instead of N. If you have a network where people are using the 2.4 GHz channel, this may impact the speed of that portion of the wireless network when people go to print. To help get around this issue, I have all of their laptops that are capable of it connect on the 5 GHz wireless N channel and leave the 2.4GHz channel to the printer and older laptops.

Maybe somebody else will make a suggestion on a different brand with which they've had success, but that's my shot for now.

If it is the route you go, be sure to see the tips on getting the most life out of the toner cartridges under comments at Amazon. These printers do tend to tell people to replace their toner well before it is used up. With a minor trick, people basically reset the printer's knowledge of this and milk the toner cartridges until they are dry.

The color printer is a brother HL-4040CN

The b/w mfc was a brother MFC-8860DN

So, it looks like a MFC-9970CDW would be a bit faster than even our old b/w. So, that looks like a decent option.

Anyone else?
 
I'll second that Brother model. It's a very cost effective color laser MFD.
 
Ok.

Any recommendations if we want to go with separate units and hopefully at least get a faster black and white all in one to go along with a decent color laser printer.
