On my parents PC, I am going to install a 9600GSO or 8800GT to increase PPD. They have a 3.0 GHz with HyperThreading Pentium 4 and 1GB of memory. Would I be able to still run the CPU classic console client (v6.23) along side of the GPU client or should I just run the GPU client? Right now, the CPU client alone is showing only 250 PPD so I guess it wouldn't be a big loss if I could no longer run it after I install the GPU client. They don't use their PC very much, it's idle 90% of the time, and only use it to check email and browse an occasional website.

Ive got a setup like that, same P4 I think and a 8800 GTS that I'm gonna give my brother when he moves back north, youll be fine running both

The HT is more than enough to keep the GPU happy.

the nvidia gpu client uses at most 1% of the cpu so running the cpu console client wont have any effect on performance of the gpu client.. it basicly comes down to what your parents are willing to deal with..
 
the P4 wont be that bad for that, Ive run 3 GPU's and a standard client before on mine, little bit of winAFC to keep everything on "core" #2 and keep #1 for the OS and web browsing

They don't even notice the CPU client running now as it is. The only thing they complain about is the loud HSF in this crappy eMachine of theirs. :D

Or just replace the HSF, and the computer/client might just actually run faster.:)

Faster = more points.

Though, if your parent's computer runs faster, they might complete their computer tasks faster, and therefore not use their computer for the same amount of time they used to. (I know, because once I upgraded my mother's primary computer, she no longer needed to spend 5+ hours to do a 2 hour task... so I got 2 hours/day of borg time:()
 
Welp, the project for this morning quickly went bust. I opened up the parents computer to install the 8800GT and, although there is a nice PCI-E x16 slot, there is no way to connect power to the card. I need to acquire a molex to PCI-E adapter. No Fry's here or even a MicroCenter, off to post a want ad.
