Which C2D for me

I've been a bit out of the loop on the various C2D's available, and I'm looking to build a new workstation/gaming rig in about a month, and need some assistance with selecting the CPU. Currently I'm trying to decide between the E4500, E6320, and E6550. I'm leaning towards the E6550 since it's got more cache and a faster FSB over the E4500, but the E6320 is intriguing me since it's slower than the E6550, but $10 more? Is this a generational thing where one is simply cheaper to produce, or does the E6550 have some compelling feature the E4500/E6550 lack?

Which of these will do best for gaming for the $$$ spent? FWIW the rig will have 2 GB of RAM to start with, probably on a Gigabyte P35-DSR3, and will not be overclocked.

I have been able to overclock my e6320 to 3.150 ghz without a hitch. It has the retail packaging cooling and I still have it at stock voltage.

I suppose they may be price hiking a bit because of what it is capable of in this regard.

I would tend to agree with the above posters synopsis of it...but I can attest that I am extremely happy with my 6320 :)
 
I would look at it as:

1: If you're not overclocking go with the E6550
2: If you're overclocking on a budget, go with the E6320
3: If you're overclocking with a higher budget, go with the E6550

Reasons:
1: So that you will have a higher clockrate, and be satisfied with your speed in the future.
2: So that you can get the bang for your buck processor and push it to it's limits.
3: So you can start off with a higher multiplier and usually be able to clock it higher than what an E6320 could do.
 
The E6550 replaced the E6320 in that particular price bracket. Since the E6550 is faster than the E6320, I'd get the E6550 instead if you're planning on OCing' at all. Also, the E6550 and E6320 share the same multiplier.

Here's what I'd recommend:
- If you're keeping everything at stock speeds, stick with the E6550.
- If you're overclocking on a budget, go with the E4500. The E4500 can easily be OC'd to 3.2Ghz with very little effort and doesn't require highly overclockable RAM like with the E6550/E6320. And it's only $122:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 CPU - $122
- If you're overclocking but with a large budget, go with the E6750. It's only $20 more than the E6550 but it's easier to OC due to its 8x multiplier and it can hit 3.8Ghz. to 4.0Ghz with a good HSF.

i just got my 6750 and its like night and day with my old 4200 x2
