I understand but I'm looking for a board that will work properly out of the box as I don't have any ryzen cpus to fall back on to do a bios update.

I have never seen that before, esp on a consumer board. You might be able to do something similar on a server board that has IPMI without "booting" the system, but not totally sure.

I know that some Asus boards do. Not sure if any AMD boards have the option. Look for the USB BIOS Flashback:

The only thing guaranteed to work out of the box is going to be the 4XX chipsets coming next month. Everything on the 3XX chipsets is going to be a crapshoot.
