Ok so I'm deciding to pull the trigger on a 5770 (instead of a 5850) after reading comments about how my pc is not up do date (quad core @ 2.4Ghz). My question now is which card? I don't plan on OC at all. I saw that TD is having a 15.2% CB for a limited time so I think that now is the best time to purchase a video card.

not worth getting a 5770 if you dont plan on OCing... IMO

EDIT: Ive got a vapor-x 5770 that I OC, temps never go above 60C, and am enjoying the card. how come you dont plan on overclocking?

EDIT2: I'm overclocking and the benefit is there, the only reason i went early for this card (bought right after it came out) is that once OC'ed it neared 4890 speeds while maintaining low temps. I also plan on crossfiring in the future. You'd be missing some performance by running at stock speeds

I've got a HIS which I love. I'm sure everybody on here will you XFX, HIS or Sapphire. Like I said though my HIS 5770s do me solid.

I have a 5770 hawk in my HTPC. Good cooler and the 5770's are good for light duty. Crossfire them for more demanding games/settings.

xfx 5770 for double lifetime warranty, cheapest was $140 new that i have seen
MSI hawk 5770 for unique cooling/OC solution
Sapphire Vapor-X 5770 for 3rd party cooling/OC solution

i would say just go for the warranty.... dont really care that much for overclocking myself

http://www.overstock.com/Electronic...Card-w-20-Mail-in-Rebate/4611087/product.html

30% bing cashback by searching "overstock" without the quotes and clicking the advertised 15% banner (it will say 30% on the popup) on bing.com. Plus it has a $20 rebate.

$163 - 30% = about $125, minus 20 rebate = 105, $1 shipping.

Enjoy! Found the bing info here: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2131808 and made a purchase of something else myself with the 30% :D. Was nice to get $1 shipping since it's a heavy item, too.

If you have the money or come across a deal I would suggest the 5850, just because the rest of your PC is not as up to date does not mean you should settle for a 5770.

Overstock is down to 15% now.

Im thinking about pulling the trigger on a 5770 as well, but have some conflicting data:

$175 - 15.3% = $149 - $25 MIR = $124 + shipping. http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6435907&CatId=3669

However im thinking twice after reading the comments on newegg about diamonds tech support. Not to mention which is it, is it shrouded, or unshrouded? Even diamond's website says that the picture may not be accurate. I like the idea of the shroud, but i dont know if its a better cooling device, or not, or if it really keeps the case cooler by exhausting out the rear (if its an enclosed shroud design.) Feedback on fan designs would certainly be helpful. Ive never owned a videocard where the fan didnt fail long before i was willing to replace the card. Hate trying to lubricate fans, and the one on newegg looks about as strong as a blade of grass in the wind.

For reference, newegg showing the non shrouded design. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103117

EDIT: I asked compusa about which fan setup their card has and they responded with "Unfortunately, the product specifications provided by the manufacturer does not include the information you have requested. We are unable to answer your question at this time." Will see what diamond and newegg have to say. (See edit #4)

EDIT2: Newegg also unable to provide confirmation of whether or not the card they stock is the same design as in the picture, told me to ask the manufacturer, whose own site website shows a different fan solution, but also says that the picture might be inaccurate.

EDIT3: Diamond responded to say "Specifically, the 5770PE51GXOC has the "black shroud and blower fan that covers the entire card..." The 5750PE51GXOC, which is a model lower than the one you are looking for has the aluminum heatsink w/ fan attached. Refer to the diamond web site to compare the two models http://www.diamondmm.com/HD5700.php" However in the newegg picture you can clearly zoom in and see a sticker under the fan that the sticker says "5770-1G" So... i guess you take your chances when ordering from newegg.

EDIT4: The card at compusa is not as pictured on their website according to a recent comment.

If your system is sort of not "up to date" and such, maybe you should consider buying a 4870 or even 4890? The performance will be about the same as a 5770, or even better in some applications. Plus, I think some of the negatives about the 5770 come from people trying to run a new card on an old system.

Sapphire Vapor X 5770 here.. just OC it, they run nice and quiet, less power and run cooler
