I have a linksys 610N dual-band router. I bought it used, and it's about 5 years old by model. Two weeks ago the wifi began cutting out and then it stopped working entirely. After much experimentation I found that it would now only work on the a/g bands, and would not work when it was set to "wireless n only." I had previously put DDWRT on it. I'm assuming that this means that the antenna burned out.
My question is this, will the router keep on working on the a/g bands or is this a sign that it's likely to lose the other antenna within the next two years. My roommates and I are arguing about whether to buy a new router now or stay with this one in the hopes that it will last two years. If it dies before then they will probably want a new router right away and it will end up being a poor deal.
If this doesn't mean that it's going to die, I would rather wait and purchase an AC band router as my next upgrade. If the router is likely to die soon, I would probably buy the Asus RT-N66U that's on sale right now.
