I'm like a junkie, but I'm addicting to building PC's and now even more HTPCs. I thought that when I built my first one and put it in my living room that would be the end. Then I thought it would be nice to put one in my bedroom, Now I have one in my basement, 2 in my office and have just purchased the parts build one for who knows what.

I am just wondering when its too much? I have just purchased a norco case to put all of my media drives and move them from my personal pc, but then I will need to just build another just for the server:D

How many do you folks have running in your homes? If I keep going I will have a total of 6 machines running in mine.

I need intervention....

You might want to consider working out how many of these you actually use at once. There are many other options instead of running an actual PC at each location.

For instance, in my case, I have one main PC that runs everything (acting as a HTPC and Media Server) and then I have the HDMI output split between 4 different screens, and IR sent back and forth between all of these. I run the HDMI over cat6 cables to each screen and it keeps costs wayyy down.

This has the disadvantage of being forced to do the same thing on each of these tvs, but for me that is a non-issue.

You may also be able to get away with some sort of extender, depending on how you use these machines.

Edit: It's never too much!

After the first one, I would've just used a WD Live or something. To have that many HTPC's....wow!

That being said, I only have one in my living room, so if you have extras, I'd be happy to take them off your hands =)

I use to have an htpc in each room that had a tv (4 total). All it did was give everyone the ability to watch different crap at once. I downsized to one in the family room so we can watch movies as a family and have a WDTV in the living room for the few times we are all just hanging out down there. Has worked out wonderfully for me.

is there such thing as too much PC in a house ? well when you think you have enough , you still can build servers, folding farm ...... My wife say no more PC in the house; so now I expend in the garage LOL

i have one htpc/media server in the living room and have no need to do so yet but when i have TVs in other rooms i will just use devices that can stream from the "server."

seems to me that this is more efficient and more convenient than having different media at each location.

You're on the wrong forum to be asking when too much is too much. We're all junkies in that regard.

I've got a server + PC's, laptops and HTPC's for the end clients. Plus, a networking lab with servers and networking equipment. I have parts and PC's from long ago. I'm actually now being forced to give/sell or build PC's to give away. Hoarders with PC's. :) Watch - I'll be on that show!

I think your asking the wrong group of people. I myself have 4 HTPC's, 5 XBOX360's and a bunch of other stuff. Do whatever makes you happy ;)

Yeah, check out this guy's HTPC gallery thread. Even then I don't really think it's all that much. lol :D

I'm glad to see and know that I'm not going too overboard with everything. It just started to seem that no matter where I go in my home I have either a TV or computer. I went as far as to put a TV in my bathroom so that the wife can take her bath and watch her shows. I don't have an xbox but two Wii's is about it.

thanks again for making me feel better! maybe we can start a support group....wait a moment, does this forum count? :p
