If you could build your dream machine what would it be? My dream machine would be a 840 Extreme Edition water-cooled.

The computer I have with a few changes

PCPC 850 SLI PSU
2x Geforce 7800GTX
AMD Athlon64 FX-57...
15,000RPM Hitachi 74Gig Drive...

 :D

Here it goes:
FX 57
2x high end R520s
500 GB worth of 15k HDs in RAID 1
4 gigs Corsair XMS
water cooling

games, games, and more games! Oh yea, and other stuff too. :D :)

My current system with a working video card

Honestly, when I built my computer I built to to be exaclty what I wanted so I can honestly say that at the time it was my "dream system"

I respect you for this.

If I ever won a multi-million dollar lottery, I'd immediately buy either this Cray XT3 SuperComputer:

or this IBM zSeries Mainframe:

and fucking crunch data on them until they fall apart. Cancer and other such horrible diseases will be beaten, one way or another!

Forget the Cray!! What about a massive cluster with 640 processors & 10 Terabytes of ram like the earth simulator!!!

It runs at 40 Teraflops!!!

....and look at the sig, im halfway there! :D

When they come out- Dual Core Dual Xeons- everything else is fluff.

bmw 645ci coupe, custom installed 17" flatpanel touchscreen in dash controlleing dual core amd system with 1gig of ram and 1tb of disk space, audio to include seperate singel channel amps powering rainbows for mids and highs, and some really good sub amp, powering 1 12" sub..(mostlikely jbl) (i like well rounded, i know i can have better spl, but thats not the point.. ) and a good 5.1 surround sound card to put out the tunes in (at least) 5.1 system to do nav. music and movies. wireless g for hotspot connections and music streaming (and folding uploads) when sitting still/ sirrius /other sat raido for on the go (and maybe starlink for on the go web connections.. (naw.. the antennas will fuck up the look of the car... )

heh.. force feed back control to the wheel and pedels for raceing sims.. :O (just dont do it while your going donw the road.. :D)

thore

Same system I've got with a couple changes. Mainly faster processors and more ram. Of course a pair of G70's.

Cooler Master Stacker w/ Enermax Noisetaker 600W 4in1 SLi PSU
2xAMD Opteron 64 model 275's (2.2GHz 1MB L2)
Tyan K8WE NForce Professional
4096MB 4x1024MB Corsair ECC Reg. DDR400 (4GB planned)
2x Geforce 7800GTX PCI-Express 512MB (SLi)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
4x74GB WD SATA Raptor 10K RPM 8MB Cache (RAID-0)
Plextor PX-716SA 16x DVD-RW Drive

I dunno the nsame of much of the stuff cos it ain't out yet, but;

CASE: Antec P180 sprayed white
MOBO: one of those ATi chipset crossfire jobs
GPU: 2x X850XTPE
CPU: 3700 minimum
PSU: something Antec/Tagan capable of supporting that^^
DISC DRIVES: 2x DVD-RW for direct DVD to DVD burning
HDD: 200GB minimum (to start off)
KB/M: Saitek Eclipse or Packard Bell multimedia (you need a pic o see what i mean) and a Saitek gamer's mouse or MX518
DISPLAY: Xerox XA7 19"
AUDIO: Logitech Z3000 and an icemat Siberia/Speedlink Medusa headset

PEIPHERALS: Wacom intuos A3, Canon IP4000 printer, A scanner

Those Xerox monitors aren't that reliable. I see more of those returned to the computer store I work at than any other brand. They do in fact come back for hardware issues.

I'd go with something else.

I'd like to get a dual Athlon 64FX motherboard and stick two of those processors on. Then at least 2 gigs of RAM. Then I would want a Raptor 72gig hard drive for just the OS (which would probably be a legal version of Windows XP64 Pro), then a 120gig hard drive for music, 300gig hard drive for movies and 300gig for games and whatever else. Wouldn't mind the newest NVIDA video card and also a Creative SoundBlaster sound card. All this would be liquid cooled. Next I would like to see 2 DVD-R DL drives so that I could burn and copy whatever I wanted too and I could easily backup stuff on the drives. Won't need a floppy drive because I barely use the one I have.

For displays I'd see about getting either the 20in or 23in LCDs from Dell; not one but two for tons more working space. They would give me more USB slots and a card reader. Then I'd use a pretty high res. I'd also need another at 5.1sound system, b/c right now I love listening to music on my computer with what I have. And a laser printer, love those.

That would be fun to have but I still love my system now (4 years old):
1.4ghz Athlon
1 gig SDram
DVD ROM
CD-R
FX5500 256mb Video Card
Sound Blaster Live Platinum
40gig & 80gig hard drives

A machine soo good, it never has to be upgraded because it will always let me overclock it some more. Of course we're talkin on air.
