my computer is not working right now and i cant figure out why?
it all happened when i called to activate my computer wiht windows. i didnt have internet that day so i called in and they gave me the key, so it restarts only to get an error on startup and i try to boot into safe mode to see what went wrong. it just froze when i tried to get into windows, i try to restart again butit still doesnt work. after trying to get it to work i jsut wiped the drive and was going to reformat. and now i cant even get windows installed

it worked for a month then when i tried to reformat on my friends computer i get anywhere from 5-10 errors when trying to format. when it does format i do get 5-10 errors. on my computer it wont even get past formatting the drive. I thought it wasnt the hard drive because i tried 3 and they all did the same thing, but now it wont even let me install wimdows on my friends pc.

i know its not my video card, cpu, ram. the disc works because the same friend used it on his drive and it worked fine.
i wrote down the exact errors and will post them later.
all i have in my system when trying to install:
amd64 3400+ CH
dfi lanparty UT 250gb
Western digital 160 gig HDD
Sony dvd/cd player
PNY 6800gt
 
i dont want to end up RMAing everything so i need to see what the problem is.
 
I had this problem once, I just sent my hardrive back got a new/different one and all was good.I'm not sure to this day if it was the hardrive or not but everything turned out all right.

same here i've had that problem, i got a new hard drive and bada boom bada bing here i am today...if u have a spare hd to fool around with, give it a shot.
 
Check your cooling. Make sure the fan on the heatsink is working and that the heatsink is clean.

The other thing would be to get memtest86 and run that for a few loops to make sure your RAM is good.

I've run into problems like this before and it usually turned out to be an overheating processor or flaky RAM.

I am also assuming your system is not overclocked. If it is, then run it at stock.

 
If it's crashing while formatting the hard drive, and repeatedly giving errors while formatting the hard drive, I would have to go out on a limb and say your hard drive might not be working properly. ;)

I had the same problem when I got my Raptor HDD. It crashed while formatting once, then it let me install Windows, then it crashed and upon reboot it detected it as a 0MB HDD :eek:

i thought that it was the hard drive when i tried 2 other ones and it does the same thing. But now i dont know if it is the HDD or not, i tried mine on my friends computer to see if it would work. It gets donee formatting the drive but then gives me a BSOD when trying to install windows. So now i have no idea what it is?

i have reset the CMOS and its at stock settings. Ill have to try different ram to see if thats the problem.
