Hi,


I have an old C2D system and i get a lot of restarts. I have an Abit IP35-E motherboard which causes it to double boot but after that it still restarts 1-3 times before getting to the windows xp loading screen. Also when I play WoW it crashes a lot.

Is it my ram? or something else?

It could be the RAM, motherboard, PSU, GPU, and even hard drive. So start troubleshooting:
[Testing the RAM]
Download Memtest86+ v4.00 or whatever the latest version is, unzip it, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP/Vista install CD. Let Memtest+ run for at least three hours on each stick of RAM separately as well as test the RAM all together. Go for a full 24 hours if you want to be completely sure that the RAM is not a problem. If you start seeing errors, than your RAM is defective or you have incorrect settings for the RAM.

[Testing the Hard Drive]
Download the CD image of Hitachi Drive Fitness Test, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP/Vista install CD. Test the hard drive and see if any problems are found. DFT will run on most manufacturers' hard drives. Alternatively, you can use Seagate's SeaTools for DOS to test a Seagate or Maxtor drive. For a Western Digital drive, you could use Data Lifeguard Tools for DOS to test a Western Digital drive.

[Testing the CPU]
Use Prime 95, OCCT, Orthos or Intel Burn Tool to stress test the CPU.

[Testing the GPU]
Use Furmark, OCCT, or ATI Tool to stress test the GPU. If you see any artifacts, the GPU could be overheating, too overclocked, or faulty.
 
I have a P35-E abit board and it has never doubled booted. Have had it for 3 years and still working good.
 
I think it is B02. I bought the board in Feb. 2008 and still using the bios that came with the board.
 
Ok I finally did the troubleshooting and I'm fairly certain its the RAM. I used Prime95 Blend torture test and it failed the very first test. When I switched the test to the less memory dependent one didn't get error for an hour.

So I booted Memtest86+ v4.20 within 10mins I had 2000 errors with both sticks. I also got errors using then seperately but not as much on 1 of the 2 sticks.

I checked the local sellers and found a few options:
2x2GB Team Elite DDR2-800 CL6 = PHP2550.00
2x1GB Patriot DDR2-800 CL5 (PSD22G800KH) = PHP2500.00
2x2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 CL5 (OCZ2P8004GK) = PHP2400.00
2x2GB OCZ Titanium DDR2-800 CL4 (OCZ2T800C44GK) = PHP2700.00

The shop selling OCZ also has a promo:
Buy an Asus P5KPL-AM EPU get the OCZ memory modules for only PHP2000 and PHP2200 respectively.

I live in the Philippines by the way. My system is C2D E4500 with an Abit IP35-E mobo. My Hard disk (WD Caviar Blue 500GB) is new I bought it a few months ago. Video card is a Power Color HD2600XT.

I'm also thinking of updating my video card a bit to a:
Palit 9800GT 512MB DDR3 Green Edition = PHP3710.00
Power Color HD4670 PCS 1GB DDR3 = PHP3390.00
XFX HD4670 1GB DDR3 = PHP3300.00
Sapphire HD5570 1GB DDR3 = PHP2900

I just play WoW and some other games. Thanks in advance.
 
From those four choices, I'd go with the 9800GT.

As for the RAM, just go for the Team Elite.
 
The 9800GT is out of stock. Will my processor bottleneck a Sapphire HD5670 1GB DDR5?
 
If you were looking at a 9800GT, you can get a 5770 for not that much more honestly. It's also only about $40 more than the 5670, but depends on how much you can stretch your upgrade budget.

EDIT: Just read a post where oyu said you were in the Phillipines, you would have to price that out. But any of those cards will be better than your 2600.
