Whats wrong with my computer that WAS working?

Well my new computer WAS working perfectly before the MSN software crapped out on me. Ok heres the story..about an hour ago i came back from the comp shop.....i bought a new floppy drive and a rounded floppy cable..so i swapped out my old floppy drive/cable....and turned the comp on and it booted up just fine. And i was going to go online before one of my programs tried to start up '' free ram xp pro'' and when i tried to get into msn the MSN software froze my comp and i tried to shut it down in windows but it kept on freezing, after about 5 ''hard'' reboots i found out that the power switch didnt work anymore. So then i did what i shouldnt have done> i flipped the I/O switch in back of the PSU, and everytime i press down on the power switch connector on the mobo the comp starts up and the fans spin and my LED fan's light keeps flipping on and off, but thats about it. I have tried everything to get this comp back up and running but no luck. Did i break the power switch or something? If i did i cant return the case cause i modded it. So will someone PLEASE!!! help me out here. i really feel bummed now....i just built my first comp and it was up and running despite a lot of glitches and now THIS had to happen to me. What do u guys think i should do now? thanks in advance
 
unplug the new floppy cable and see if it starts up... since that is the onyl thing you changed... it is possible that you got a bad one, or it is upside down or something...
 
right now nothing is happening at all, pressing down on the power switch connector on the mobo doesnt do anything.......the thing is literally ''dead''.....Is there some other wy that i can bring this thing back to life? BTW i tried to unplug the power cable on the floppy drive but still nothing

Remove all PCI cards and leave just the basics (mobo + cpu + ram+ videocard), reset the BIOS from jumper and then power up. If you get a NO GO then something is damaged, mostly the motherboard i think.
 
A quick way to check if the power switch is damaged is to swop the power/ reset switches on the mobo headers.
Then just try hitting the reset switch to start the computer up.

I would second stripping it down to min spec before you try that.
That way there will be less variables that could be causeing the trouble.

If it is the switch then go into the bios and set it to restart after a power cut.
That way you can get it to boot without useing the power switch.

I don't know why this sometimes helps also, but you may try reseating all cards, the RAM and processor. Yes, it can be a pain in the ass but I have found on more than one occasion it works. Do try the other suggestions first though. It is a pain in the ass and should be one of the last options you try. I doubt there is anything wrong with the power switch. It's nothing more than a couple of wires and a contact point.

I second that - connect the reset button to the power header and try booting with minimum hardware...
 
well guys...i took the whole comp to my uncles house. Hes gona RMA the mobo and fix it for me so......i just hope that i can get it back in one piece and hopefully it'll last me a lifetime. Ill have to wait for a week or two to get the new comp back :mad:
