ok I have 6 fans and 1 cpu fan:

2x 80mm intake fans in the front
1x 120mm intake fan on the side
2x exhaust fans in the back
1x exhaust fan on the top

is this a good setup ? should teh fans be set up differently to max. cooling ?

...only positive comments please.

dood really i have the same setup just without the top fan and i've found it works good, but really it depends. but also changing stuff around probably wont do much maybe +/- 1-2 degrees. air cooling has itsl imits and really the difference could be in ambient temperatures.

Put some smoke in your computer (Blow out a few candles in front of teh intakes or something). If the smoke is taken in and out of your case quickly, you're good. If it lingers and spins around for a bit.. you can optimize it better.

Are you serious? Candle smoke contains a good deal of "soot" or burnt wax which will be sucked in through the intake fans and be deposited on his hardware, will this be a critical problem, no. I could just be anal but I don't like any foreign substances on my internals.

lol there is smoke out their though like the stuff they use for testing areodynamics that im sure would work well without doing harm

I have to somewhat disagree with daphatgrant, because even though intake = exhaust gets the best flowrate, I think having a positive pressure inside the case keeps particles (dust) and what have you out. It probably wouldn't get much hotter in there if any.

The only problem there is that that puts more strain on the Intake fans, by having them force air into the case that is not being expelled properly. And this will also put more work on the exhaust fans as they are being pushed to expel the excess air pulled in by the intake fans. Thus cutting down the overall air exchange. If you are worried about dust, something as simple as a green scrub pad (used as a filter) in the cleaning isle can make quite a bit of difference relatively inexpensive. My advice is to find out the CFM rating for each fan, look at obstructions in the case, and try and work out an equal or as close to equal as possible (+/- 10 CFM) intake/exhaust ratio. But for a basic user 6 fans is going to keep most of your stuff cool anyways :).

o ya it definetely does especially with the summer and the central air being on i get 25-30C with the cpu hd and system

Use an incense stick instead, seriously. That is what I use to view airflow characteristics within my cases.

If your case has a window, you can easily mount the incense stick with a piece of tape in
various locations within the case to view how the smoke reacts in different spots. Not to mention
they make your system smell nice.
