PC is in my sig.
I'm getting less than sufficient performance out of my computer and i'm not sure why.
The most strenuous thing I do is play a game on one monitor (CSS, SC2, BC2) and watch a movie on the other. They're both 22". My GTX 260 is running at 710/1531/1168. Benchmarks tell me that is equivalent to a GTX 295. I my DDR2 800 ram (4 x 1gb) is OCed to 864mhz. HD Tune says the OS hard drive has a 2.6mb/s min, 107.7mb/s max, 73.1mb/s avg. Acess time of 16ms, burst rate of 160.4mb/s, and cpu usage -1.0%.
OS HD:

All the other HD's are WD or Hitachi 1TB's.
USB devices:
Mouse/keyboard
Microphone
Droid2
Ipod
External HD
Printer
Wireless N Adapter
Slots:
GTX 260
Soundblaster Audigy SE
Geforce 6200 1gb (PCI w/ PCI slot fan below it)
Internal Sata card (Because I can't fit any more on my board. 6 HD's)
Software usually running:
Symantec Endpoint protection
Teamviewer
Peerblock
uTorrent
iTunes
Steam
Game
Movie (VLC, GOM, or WMP)
Some places where I see poor performance:
FPS while gaming and watching a movie - Either the movie is a little slow, CSS FPS is low (usually around the 100fps cap, around 50fps when the PC is slow), or they're both slow.
Day-to-day operations- Switching between monitors (I keep 2 out of the 4 on at any single time), random temporary slow downs, sometimes while trying to navigate directories or open programs. Generally they last anywhere from a few seconds to waiting a few minutes then restarting.
Boot up: It will take about 1:45-2:00 minutes from hitting the power button to typing in the password to my account. Then about 45 more seconds for it to fully load my desktop.
What I have done to troubleshoot it:
-Reset all my overclocks back to stock
-CCleaned
-Fragmentation rates are all 0% except for the OS HD at 2%
-Start up programs are at a minimum
-Originally bought Geforce 6200 to try to troubleshoot the problem and add a 3rd monitor. It didn't fix anything so it's now disable and only 2 monitors are running.
-New GPU Drivers (270.15)
-Tried 2 x 2gb G-Skill DDR2 800 ram instead of 4 x 1gb Corsair ddr2 800
My question is what is holding me back? My CPU and GPU should be more then good enough for these tasks.
Is 4gb of ram not enough for this much multitasking?'
Benchmark: 3dmark06
I ran it under dual display (task manager, performance tab displayed), all overclocks removed, Symantec Endpoint AV was the only software running.
During the benchmark the cpu was at 30-50% except for the CPU tests when it was 85-98%. Memory usage was 1.3gb to 1.7gb.
Score-
11712
SM2.0: 4377
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 5572
CPU Score: 3523
My highest benchmark was a few months ago with the same OC settings I had it at before I just reset it back to stock. I've had slowness problems for a while but it's just becoming unbearable. I can't recall if I got this score before the slowness.
17149
SM2.0: ~7k
HDR/SM3.0: ~8k
CPU: 4929
I think I did a benchmark with my OC settings and slowness and I got like 15,6xx in 3dmark06.
