Other then the worst game ever...

*puts on the flame suit*

LOL. Hear me out. I'm a "hardcore gamer" (see hardcore gamer post...Ya i have game tattoos) I have been playing since duke3d. I have played every shooter out there.

I just have to know how people can still play cs source. Not sure when cs came out... guessing back in like mmm 2000 maybe. Do you guys not care that its the exact same game? The same maps. The same guns. The same gameplay. I love ut cuse its always changing. Do you guys like the idea that counterstrike hasn't changed over the years. Or would u like to see some change???

if it aint broke dont fix it.

what else are you expecting to hear...

listen to all the people that want old games redone with new graphics...
theres no difference, gameplay is gameplay and CS is just fun.

I've never been a big fan of CS. We used to play the old version at work on our lunch break. It was alright and all, but I liked MoH and (when it came out) CoD alot better.

i mean i have cs source and love it, i guess the gameplay and graphics to be is just awesome and its a fun game to play

I liked CS since the day I played it, started playing source now that I built my new rig. I played CS off and on, usualy I got to points where I played it like 3-4 hours a day, and then the next day just decided to quit. CS is a really repetitive game, if you liked it the first time around, you'll like it for the next 30000 times, until you get sick of it, and then it becomes something new again (at least it was like that for me). Ever since I quit CS, I was like I'll go back if it had better graphics, then Source came out and it was exactly what I wanted. Nice graphics and fun quick action, the game is realistic, but not to a point where its insanely realistic so its fun. CS:S has only been out for a little while now, give Valve some time to actually use the engine to its advantage and alter the gameplay a little bit, but huge changes will upset the community....

Even though I dont play CS Source much anymore due to other games catching my interest more... I like CS Source. The original CS I think sucked, although I did play it for a few months. Source gave CS a breath of fresh air... the game feels different, the guns are different (regardless of the cosmetic look), and you HAVE to be good at it or its no fun (same with original though).

I am REALLY good at CS Source and I really enjoy playing it. My friend on the other hand is decent, and does not enjoy it because he doesnt like waiting for the next round and he thinks EVERYTHING is "cheap" if he doesnt win.

You absolutly have to learn the guns in CS to be good at the game, which is something you never have to do in any other game. UT = point and click... you just have to be quick with a mouse. In CS you have to not only be quick, but know what you are doing to be effective. Also, learning the maps and listening to the sound of people and footsteps is to your advantage...

Im not saying its the best game ever or anything... it just doesnt suck as much as people say, because most people that dont like it suck at it themselves.

I love how people just say it sucks... 99.9999999999% of people who say this, and only this, suck themselves.

"CS is to repetitive"
"CS requires too much skill, I dont have skill"
"CS is fun, but I dont like the AWP, so I dont play"

All of the above are acceptable answers... saying it simply sucks just means your a moron.

I used to be cal-m, and i played with cal-p kids a lot before i quit. I think CS is one of the worst first person shooters ever. So i quit.

Reasons, not opinions! People cant understand anything you would ever have to say based on an opinion. WHY do you think its one of the worst ever?

If the game was so bad, then why did you spend so much time playing it? Even on the highly competitive level?

Care to explain why it sucks?

Adam.

I personally think CS: Source is one of the best games currently out there. Like bealzz said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Why do we need new weapons? The array of weapons that's already there provides something for every situation and every style of play. If you get a server with active admins to boot out hackers/whiners, it's actually really fun.

Because the only weapons that are used are the ak, m4 and awp. If all the weapons were more equal, it would definatly make the game more interesting.

Not true...

just because those are the easiest guns to use it does not mean they are the best.

I personally hate the M4, I kinda like the AK, and the AWP is decent but I cant snipe very well after I got my new monitor.

I use the TMP, Pump Shotgun, Dual Pistols, and the Machine Gun whenever I play... I rock hard with them.

MMmmm

WELL WHEN I PLAY everyone uses the ak, m4 and awp. AND GOD DOES IT PISS ME OFF!!!!. ALot of servers have the awp banned. But still the ak and m4 get one shot kills all the time. And not all the "skill" in the world can stop it!! But in ut it does take skill. I dunno i just think if a noob wanted to pick up a game and have fun they should pick ut. If ur a noob and u play cs its not a fun experience.

I agree completely. I've said it before. Amazingly enough I get the same lame statements everytime in response. Bullshit like:

"It's about the competition." Whatever, every FPS w/multiplayer is about competition. CS is no better and is actually probably worse in this regaurd since its easy as hell to hack.

"It's not supposed to be realistic." Even though it was marketted as a tactical FPS when it came out in like 1999 or whenever. People don't want to admit that the game was originally designed in a different era of gaming and is simply a game that shows its limitations when compared to todays games.

One of my favorites in response to some of my complaints about CS:S.

"If you added weather effects, better lighting, crouching, prone positions and modernize the game, and throw new maps in, its not CS anymore." Which I respond to by saying "That would be a good thing."

In my opinion the game is technically the least sophisticated, and offers game play I don't particularly enjoy. I thought CS:S was going to take the concept of CS and add the modern things I have come to expect and require out of a modern FPS game. Instead they send a rehashed version of CS out the door. So its got new textures. Great, all they did was polish a game that was new and inventive in 1999 that's little more than a stale turd now. Turd polishing is a waste of time in my opinion.

The ONE and ONLY defense people can make in favor of CS is this:

"The game may be old but I still enjoy it." To that I say "More power to you." If you can still enjoy a game after 6 or 7 years then great. Its occasionally fun to break out a old game and play it again for me too. It just gets old after a half hour or so.

I'd like to point out that CS has trained people to be easier to kill in other FPS games. For example: in games like BF2 where bunny hopping doesn't help at all, in fact hinders your forward movement, I just aim for chest level and shoot them. It takes like two more bullets to kill them. But at the time they can't accurately fire back at me. Helps me rack them up. I especially love bunny hoppers that think that stupid moves are helpfull when I am shooting at them from a helicopter. It makes them look like they are jumping into my fire. I giggle when I see that.

I want a real tactical shooter, with more destroyable objects, Farcry/HL2 style physics and CS's concept, without the lame as round based respawn time. Plus, I'd like fog, night and day cycles, weather effects, and more gore. FEAR's Multi-player is somewhat like this, although it has a somewhat sci-fi twist due to the weapons.

I often get flamed for comments such as these too. So get prepared. I don't care I am just throwing in my $.02. Also get ready for the dumbasses to say that you suck as CS and that's why you hate it. I'll just head ignorant comments like that off at the pass. That's bullshit. You can be good at a game and not like it. I am good at all the FPS games. Usually in the top 3 or top 5 depending on the game. Often 1 or 2 if its a game I play all the time like UT2004. So anyone who's going to say that to me can shove that in advance.

I simply don't like CS and certainly didn't think it was all that when it was new. I played it for awhile, I got back into it about 2 years ago for a bit. Then lost interest. When I started playing CS:S when it first came out I was severely dissapointed by its lame ass recycling of the same damn game I grew tired of years before.

This is a perfectly acceptable response to me. You like it and theres no reason why. I can accept that. Just like the old DOS game Scorched Earth. It's less complicated than Tetris. I couldn't get enough of that stupid thing. It even fit on a floppy. Unfortunately it doesn't run on Windows XP and certainly not the x64 Edition of it. Otherwise I'd still play it.

I don't think the graphics are all that great. Half Life 2's deathmatch and single player modes look much better. As do all the newer games. But if you like it, that's fine. Graphics don't make the game. I still play Super Puzzle Fighter 2 on a Sega Saturn.

Dam sir. U should write a book about gaming!!! lol. Good stuff.

*goes back to playing ut99.* lol Now there is a game i can play for 5 years and STILL LOVE. For me playing cs is like pulling teeth. But sometimes u gotta do it ( like at lans when all ur friends will ONLY PLAY CS)

So you're implying that it takes no skill to play CS?

A single shot to the chest from either an AK or an M4 does not kill. A single shot to the head from either weapon will kill. Sounds like somebody's just pissed off that they keep getting headshotted.

If you're a noob and you play CS, it can still be fun. You're just incredibly biased. Or again, maybe you just had a bad time because you couldn't get any kills?

I like counterstrike, it has eaten many hours of my life since I got it last november, but it is true that you have to like watching matched for it to be much fun when you die.

U nailed right there ...on THE HEAD! I just don't get how people think its "fun" to turn a coner and BLAM dead by a head shot. Then u have to seat and wait. I don't think it takes "skill" to get a head. Sometimes they just get lucky and HAPPEN to nail ur head.

Sometimes they do. and sometimes you turn a corner too blindly.

every game has an element of luck to it. poker for example. now this game is perceived by many non-poker-players as a game of mostly luck. when that isn't true. there are professionals who consistently win, some have won the world series of poker several times. because even though a game has parts of luck to it, there is much skill involved. the ones who realize it and master all the skill they can will beat the majority of players, they may still have bad beats, but they will still come out ahead of the general crowd.

the fact of the matter is, you wouldn't be saying CS takes no skill if you knew the extent of all the dynamics in CS gameplay.

Yay, another "I think CS sucks so i'm going to bitch about it" thread. If you don't like the game, fine, that's your opinion, but it doesn't mean that you have to make a post telling everyone how you think it's the worse game ever. Just like any other game, there are people that like it, and people that hate it.

I'm not that fond of the Medal of Honor series, but do I go telling everyone "OMG that game sucks ass!!!" No. I respect the people that play it enough not to disrespect a game that they like.

I used to play CS non-stop for 3 years. In that time I made a lot of friends and had a lot of great times playing. A game doesn't have to have the best graphics or the best features to make it fun.

I just have to know how people can still play cs source. Not sure when cs came out... guessing back in like mmm 2000 maybe. Do you guys not care that its the exact same game? The same maps. The same maps

There are new maps.

The same guns

Two new guns were added in CS 1.6, maybe that's not enough for you.

The same gameplay

Why drastically change something that works?

Can you honestly tell me how much UT has changed from ut99 to ut04? Sure, ut04 has better graphics, new\different weapons, new maps, new game modes, but underneath all of that it's the same game as ut99.

CS:S has better graphics than CS, a couple new weapons (do you really need 100 different ones to choose from?), new\updated maps (not all ut04 maps are new, some are just updates). CS used to have more than just two modes, it had four. Why did they take out two of them? Because almost no one played them. I'm sure out of all of ut04's modes there are some that hardly get played.

Anyways, i'm just getting tired of always seeing "<insertgamenamehere> sucks" threads.

QFT

I always prefered TFC to CS, course I never played CS competively. Most of the time that I found myself playing CS was at local lans where all people play is CS =/. To me, CS seems like a descent game, but most of the players I know are ME-TOOer's who only play it because their friends play it and so forth. A whole generation of fps players have emerged who have never done a rocket jump.

I think you just proved his point, and disproved yours while you're at it. Counter Strike, I don't think, has had many game modes added or changed, but I'm not sure. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Its just that I feel that the changes in Unreal Tournament have been substantial enough to label it a new game, from UT to UT2k4. Then again, comparing Counter Strike to Unreal Tournament is kind of like comparing apples and oranges, so I guess you could consider my argument redundant :) .

I never got into Counter Strike. I would certainly play it if I had it, because it is a game, but I'm a person thats like "I don't not like it, but I don't exactly like it heaps either". I guess cause I've never really played it much before. Just don't hate me cause I haven't played it much :p

thats the point, change a game, revamp it, new maps, game modes, weapons, but keep the same underlying game, CS has done none of that, and the 2 new weapons in 1.6, the Famas and Galil, one, the FAMAS, was in the original CS mod for HL when it came out, and the galil, thats just one new weapon that noone uses. And what has CS done? revamped graphics, thats it, same old gameplay from '99. Im sure CS:S has maps you can download somewhere, i know CS 1.5 did cause i used to play it all the time when we were bored in our Barracks, our 1st Sergeant used to tear us to shreds in a lot of the maps, im not going to claim UT2k4 requires an abnormal amount of skill to be good at, but its a much better game when it comes to fairness, a n00b playing CS needs to get good real fast otherwise, bam dead, bam dead, i know how it is cause i experienced that, in UT2k4 it seems to be more even, no one hit kills, save with the Lightning Gun, Redeemer, sniper, which makes it more enjoyable cause your not dying every round from a lucky headshot, or even a skilled one, CS became to repetitve, in my barracks in the 4 years i spent there, only one did we ever play CS, then everyone got bored of it, and for the next 3 only the kids who had no friends, not to imply those that play CS have no friends but thats how it was in B company. bear with me on this argument, its 543 AM and i just woke up.

I like Counter-strike, these are the reasons...

1) Its fast paced most of the time, lots of rushing and little camping if you play on a good server.
2) Its objective based most of the time, if you play on a good server all the players will know the objective of their team and strive for it.
3) It requires an understanding of the games mechanics, unlike basic DM of CTF games, you need to know how to move and fire the guns properly to truly succed in the game.
4) I like the type of weapons and how they are balanced between realistic and unrealistic, yeah you should die in one shot but the game doesn't aim for pure realism for that I go play R6.
5) Best maps I have played in a competitive MP game, COD is nice but I need more close combat, not sniping for 3 miles away.

Basically, I balance it all out by playing all the games. I play some CS:S here and there, then jump onto R6:RS and then move to COD:UO. UT would be great if I could find some decent servers but every server I have played on gives me a 100+ ping, and most good mods never get the support they should have.

I love playing CS:S now and then, I get burnt out now and then, but that happens with any game really.

If they would just hit thos damn hit boxes I'ld definately play more often. Having to shoot 2 feet behind someone to hit them is ridiculous.

I think CS is a perfectly good destillation of the concepts in it.
Namely: "It's easy to kill and die", "small maps makes for more action" and "rounds".
Adding much more to it would obscure the focus.

For the record I've barely played the original CS (few hours around beta7), so CS:Source is still a somewhat new game to me.

CS:S is the first CS that I have ever played. I love it.

Eventhough I routinely get score like 4-17, 5-29, 10-33 (those are my scores from the first three rounds I played last night), the odd score of 25-8 (the last round I played last night) makes it fun for me. I even have fun when I am getting killed all the time.....unless it is with an auto sniper....I hate those.

actually a shot in the head from a M4A1 does NOT kill in cs 1.6 with helmet. but will with AK either way

CS isn't a bad game.

I don't like it. But it's still a good game.

The reason I don't like it is because I like my fps's not that realistic. I actually enjoy it when people jump around and things like that. That's why I will always play TO over CS.

But I still respect CS as a very good game that requires a lot of skill.

Why not? Others make threads to bitch about BF2 or whatever game is popular at the time. How many D3 sucks threads, or BF2 sucks threads have their been? Alot more than there are threads complaining about how CS:S sucks.

This is a public forum where people are and should be free to express and discuss their opinions on things that are appropriate for the topics in each section. Since this is the gaming section, then the orginal poster should be allowed to post his thoughts on a game that he does or does not like.

If people weren't allowed to post thier thoughts on products that are related to forum topics, there wouldn't be any forum at all.
