I've came across to this term whilst reading a review of a motherboard. Could you tell me what is it exactly?

It's starting the PC from off, rather than re-starting from on (either in OS or via the reset switch on the case)... if that makes sense! :)

yup, cold boot means when all components inside the case are at room temperature. This can take a very long time for some components, espically when there is no air flow inside the case.

Uhh.. No.

It doesn't have a damn thing to do with the tempurature of any of the components.
It's the same a hard boot, and it just means starting the comp from the off position, rather than rebooting (Aka warm boot).

Exactly.

Cold boot - boot from power off state.
Warm boot - boot from power on state.

Cold boot means that the computer was completely off and then was turned on.

It is known as a problem with boards that won't just do a normal RE-START when overclocked, and instead will go off completely, and then ON again = COLD BOOT.

In regards to the Gigabyte DS3 and S3 boards it refers to an issue where when powering the machine completely off and pressing the power button to perform a cold boot, all the OCing setting are lost in the bios and the board boots with default settings.
