Not sure yet.

I'm currently on a 2500k/6950 2GB set up. I will probably upgrade both, but definitely will upgrade the GPU because it's not cutting it anymore on my new 1440p monitor.

I plan to use just one SSD and no HDD.

Undecided as to whether I will just stick with my Corsair h50 or 60 or whatever it is, or if I will upgrade to the h220.

I'd like to get a motherboard with good onboard audio for headphones as I'm hoping to reduce the size of my set-up which currently includes a full a/v receiver, speakers, etc.

Thinking about trying to find a slimline slot-loading blu-ray drive since I don't have any blu-ray player in my house, but I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of it.

Too far out yet. Some better products could hit the street before delivery. One thing I do have already purchased for my build is a 4770K cpu. Plenty fast enough for mine which will be a lanbox rig. Snagged it cheap from a microcenter while I was visiting family this last August. When we get close to Black Friday then I'll pay more attention to what I can get for it.

No problem, it's not "mine" anyway :)

I saw someone talking about placing a radiator below the GPU. If you've read the thread in the last five pages or so, you would have seen the discussion, that altough it would be possible with specific components, it would be wasted pretty much. Your best bet is to use one loop for CPU and GPU or just leave the CPU air-cooled as it generates much less heat when talking about stock clocks and i7-x770 vs high-end GPU's.

I'm about to go pick up my Impact and Temporary Case (sgo5) plus the gold strider..

then I'm just waiting for the Ncase and a GFX that is good enough ;) (coming from a 2011 platform with 7970, so cant go there again, must be better,,,)

anyone looked into why they would buy the ROG impact vs the deluxe besides the following yet? Here is my guess (off the top of my head so I may be wrong somewhere)....

Why ROG?
-sound card / amp is better on ROG
-better capacitors on ROG
-ROG looks cooler
-mini sata?

Why Deluxe?
-cheaper
-don't need audio stuff if you have your own stuff already
-More ports (USB + SATA)

I haven't really looked into it yet since the case wont come until January. I'm just wondering what you guys think. I'm assuming the majority is going to get similar motherboards for the M1

I havent look at mobos yet either. Newer and better could show up by delivery.

Why Asus Maximus VI Impact?
- overclocking is priority
- NGFF / M.2
- better sound card + headphone amp
- you like lots of extras

Why Asus Z87i Deluxe / Pro?
- ~25% cheaper
- you like yellow/gold more than red
- more space around socket because only one daughter board
- two more (internal) SATA-ports
- two more USB 3.0 ports

You decide what's more important.

  • Asrock Z77E-ITX
  • Intel i5 2500K
  • Thermalright AXP-140 or Swiftech H220
  • Crucial Ballistix SLP 16GB
  • EVGA GTX Titan SC
  • SST-ST45SF-G
  • Plextor PX-256M5M mSATA SSD 256GB

thanks sounds good. I think I'm going for the impact...... i just can't do yellow gold...... and i don't think i need the extra ports ...

Nice list Drklu :)

You might also consider 3/8"-5/8" tubing and fittings? A thicker outer wall of the tubing allows a bit tighter bends, less chance of kinking. I can't find datasheets of PrimoFlex tubing, but with good old R3603 look at the bend radius for AAC00027 and AAC00029 in this document http://www.professionalplastics.com/professionalplastics/content/TygonR3603.pdf which shows 25% smaller minimum bend radius. 3/8"-5/8" is what the H220 uses on the stock tubes for this reason. Downside is that the fittings are 2mm wider, not sure if that will be a problem.

Probably stuff that hasn't been released yet. It'll be Q4 '14 or Q1 '15 before I start building out.

I'm probably going to transfer over my 2500k and RAM onto an ASUS P8Z77-I. Then I'll get a 780 or one of the new AMD cards, throw in my H100. I may watercool the 780...we'll see how that works out.

Good points and thanks, I wasn't sure what would be better smaller or more easily bendable tubing. I like your suggestion though, larger tubes look better as well. Updated :)

I'm on a 2500k as my current system too. Will you still be running it at 4.4ghz? I can't decide to keep my current system, or upgrade to newer cpu/mobo.

I still need another nexus nx-6000r3 for my build... totally shouldn't have sacrificed the last one on the altar of SFF :(

Im not sure what I will put in there yet. I knew I had to have the case, and that I would eventually put together a machine for it.

As far as CPU's go, I will have to get one, unless I use an i5 3570 (non k) I have in another machine at the moment in there. I don't have a mobo either so I will probably go with a Haswell CPU, and might opt to go for something like the i7 4771, as CPu overclocking is not really a big deal anymore, and being able to run all cores at max sc turbo is pretty much good enough IMHO.

I will probably go with the ROG Impact, only because I want that full cover block. Otherwise maybe the Asus Z87 ITX Pro, or possibly even the ASRock Z87 board. I really like ASRock boards these days. Honestly they get you so much value/features for your money compared to ASUS.

As far as VGA goes, I will probably just use one of my 7970's, but I would really like to get an R9 290X, maybe I will sell my 7970's and get one... I also want to watercool it... Hrmmm I bet I could fund a R9 290X + full cover waterblock if I sold both 7970's....

As far as storage, I will probably go for 1-2 SSDs, striped if they are the same, plus that 2TB WD 2.5" drive. I really want them to come out with next gen HD tech so I can get >2TB, and it would be cool if it was a hybrid SSHD. They really need to start putting at least 32GB of flash on the SSHD's though, IMHO.

The silverstone 450W Gold SFX

Either the Swiftech H220, Alphacool ST30, or some other rad. The cooling setup really depends on which route I go with the mobo, and whether or not I go with that full cover block or not. If I don't go with the full cover block I will probably go with the Apogee Drive II,. This is really going to depend on what other people do, I am going to wait and see what setups other people end up running, so I can see what sort of stuff will fit or not.

What I've bought so far:
- Swiftech H220 CPU Cooler
- Asus ROG Impact VI ITX Motherboard

What's left:
- Intel i7-4770k
- EVGA GTX 780**
- Corsaie Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3-1866
- Silverstone ST45SF-G
- Western Digital Black 4TB HDD
- Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD

** I've seen some people in the M1 thread talk about putting a 290x in their build. Has it been figured out if the ST45SF-G will be able to power the card or are those people going to use a regular ATX PSU?

Well, I've followed the M1 since I saw the prototype campaign, and finally registered here at [H] in anticipation of receiving my new case!

Anyway, I plan on turning my M1 into a dual-boot hackintosh (Mavericks and Windows 8.1 Pro), hopefully with enough power for decent 2560x1440 gaming on the side.

My current plan for the initial build is going to be...

✓ Silver Ncase M1 (with no ODD top panel)
✓ Asus Maximus VI Impact motherboard
✓ intel Core i7 4770k (I hate microcenter in Tustin CA.)
☐ Most likely an EVGA 780 Ti Superclocked since it seems 290/290X aren't supported by OSX yet
✓ Silverstone 450W SFX 80-plus gold PSU (if the new SFX PSU pushes ~600W, I'll likely upgrade)
✓ 16GB (2 x 8GB) Patriot Viper 3 2133Mhz RAM
✓ 2x 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD (separate disks for Windows and Mac)
☐ 32 or 64GB M.2 SSD (for recovery tools, OS installer partitions, etc.)
✓ CoolerMaster Glacer 240L AIO CPU cooler (the re-badged Swiftech H220 that was just released)
✓ 2x Corsair SP120 PWM Performance Edition fans (for radiator)
☐ 2x Noctua NF-S12A 120mm PWM fans (floor intake, only if there's space and a real need)
☐ 2x 1TB 2.5" WD Red drives, OR 2x 2TB 2.5" Seagate M9T drives (depends on price, availability, etc. of the new M9T)
☐ Custom PSU cables with red sleeving (not a high priority, waiting until the new Silverstone SFX is released)
✓ Viewsonic VP-2770 2560x1440 monitor

And once I finally have a GPU (waiting to see if OSX is updated for R9 290/290X, or Maxwell early next year) I'm planning to water-cool it too:

☐ GPU waterblock (swiftech or EVGA if I go Nvidia, or EK if I go AMD)
☐ Norprene tubing (3/8" ID 1/2" OD)
☐ 2x 90 degree koolance nozzles (90 degree with integrated 3/8" barb)

Plans are always subject to change, but with all the parts starting to gather, I don't think there's much up in the air anymore except the GPU. I was torn for a while on going with an i7 4770/4771 or an E3-1245v3 instead of a 4770k, but I just know I'll get the itch to overclock and then be annoyed that I didn't get the K.

EDIT: Got my second SSD yesterday, and after looking over all the pictures of the prototypes and renders again, I think I'm going to scrap the use of an ODD in favor of mounting the SSD's there, so I'll still have the floor mount for a 3.5" HDD.

Hmmm... thinking of buying a AMD 280 and putting that into my main rig, pulling the 6950 from there and installing the 6950 into the M1. Then next spring when I build a whole new main gaming rig pull the 280 and putting it into the M1. Putting the 6950 back into the V354 box and giving that to my wife as her own rig. Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Plan #2 would be to just splurge and buy two 280s and put one into the V354 and the other into the M1. Decisions...decisions...

hmmmmm

290x water cooled
4670(/4770)
450w silverstone bronze
8gb ram 1600(+) Mhz
h100i/h220/etc. with extra loop trough gpu
samsung evo ssd xGB (x = budget)

Something like that...
I'd be supriced if some1 can come up with a system that will produce more fps without spending hundreds extra.

I'll be using 3 x 1080p and only a handfull of games can't be maxed on this setup.

My build will be similar, and so far it looks like air cooling will be the minority. Air cooled M1 crew gotta stick together! lol

Have not began shopping yet but this is the game plan so far, will be a complete build not reusing anything.

CPU: 4670k
Cooler: undecided between Noctua NH-C14 and the NH-C12P
Video: completely undecided, budget to be $350-400
Mobo: Asus Z87i Deluxe
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB- Half height sticks just like the samsung ones that you can't get anymore
PSU: Silverstone ST45SF-G or better SFX
HD: name brand 1TB, maybe additional SSD we'll see how good Black Friday/Cyber Monday will be to me
Monitor: 24in, ISP... more research needed
Keyboard: Logitech K750 wireless + solar powered
Mouse: Logitech something... must be wireless, use conventional batteries
Speakers: 2.0 or 2.1, will have to do research
OS: Windows 8

Right on! :)

I went for the C12, simply because you can't fit the side 3.5" HDD rack at all with the C14..

So if you're okay squeezing your 1TB HDD on the bottom, under your video card, then go for the C14; but if you're planning on using the side HDD rack for 1 or 2 drives, then go for the C12 instead.

According to my current needs I think I will stick to the following strategy:

M1 initial build (pretty generic)
Case: Ncase M1 :) black
MB: Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI □
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670(K) □ Not sure about "K" and overclocking feasibility in this build
RAM: 16GB DDR3 Crucial Ballistix □ Not sure about frequency though. Do you really need higher than 1600MHz with no CPU overclocking?? What is preffered RAM freqency for overclocking?
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 770 □ blower style
Storage1: 240Gb SSD Sandisk Extreme II □ OS X
Storage2: 120Gb SSD Corsair Force F120 √ Windows of some sort
ODD: BD-Writer Silverstone SST-SOB02 √
PSU: SFX 450W Silverstone SST-ST45SF-G √
Cooling: Swiftech H220 √ CPU
Additional cooling: Noctua NF-S12B-ULN √ 2x bottom intake
Monitor: 27" DELL 2709W 1920*1200 √

Overall I see this build as more appropriate to my needs Mac Pro substitute.
Total cost is about $2k in Moscow Russia. Grey parts are not included in the amount.

'14-'15 upgrade path:
  • Get 4K monitor.
  • Get GPU capable of handling 4K gaming. Include GPU in a water cooling loop.
  • Get SFX PSU capable of handling such GPU.

First Post!!!

Current Hardware
CPU:Intel Core i7 920
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Memory: 18GB Corsair Dominator
GPU: EVGA GForce GTX TITAN SC
SSD: 2x Samsung 840 Pro 256GB in a Raid 0

I know I'm bottlenecking the Titan with my current hardware but the plan was always to upgrade in stages. When I discovered the M1 I knew I had to have one. I'm building this primarily for gaming / multimedia and this will be my first foray into custom watercooling.

M1 in Silver

Hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K
Motherboard: Asus ROG Impact
RAM: Undecided, I've been using Corsair for years but I'm open to suggestions
GPU: EVGA GForce GTX TITAN SC - I already have this, Its awesome!!
PSU: Silverstone ST45SF-G
SSD: 2x Samsung 840 Pro 256GB in a Raid 0 - I already own these
HDD: 4TB WD spinney drive, probably WD Black
Optical: Panasonic UJ-265 Blu-Ray burner

Watercooling:
Most of this is undecided mainly because I want to get the M1 in-hand before I start buying. I had originally intended to go with the Swiftech Apogee II but then I saw the full cover block that Bitspower has and I fell in love, so now I have to try to figure out if I can fit a pump somewhere. I did buy the FrozenQ reservoir that Adamantium and Alex brought out so at least that part is locked down.

More than likely I will watch the Worklog section here on [H] so I can see what works and what doesn't and i fully intend to start my own worklog once i get started.
