What will replace WoW?

excercise worked for me coming off of a year and a half of 100hour eq weeks.

people are weak, i play wow but still work out, run on treadmill, spend time with wife, take dog for long walks, work, etc, it's all a balance and not letting any one thing in your life get out of hand and require too much of your time.. yeah it's not easy but it can be done..

my school work, girlfriend, internship and other fun games (i was always a NS fan, i went back to that) replaced wow for me. i still read the wow fourms and see how much they continue to fuck up the priest class and that keeps me away at this point.

when warhammer online comes out (or the new 40k online just announced) i'm screwd though

my real life with the exception of my girl essentially blows, and this is coming from someone who is beyond the emo teen years... so i'll stick to an mmo for my social time

i played wow, made it to 60 and quit without raiding

went back to eq1 and eq2, adore them dearly and play them daily

also have and play vanguard but it needs to have more time to blossom.

i wouldn't go back to wow....ever

People still play EQ1?!

AoC and WO will likely draw some players from WoW but I dont think anything currently on the horizon is going to break WoW. I was addicted as hell to WoW, the first 8mo after release I played something like 1800 hours. Basically the equivalent of a full time job; I played mostly at night after work. I quit when my work started to suffer from the hours needed to raid (I was walking into work sleep deprived and exhausted).

What could kill WoW?
Time and ennui will do it if nothing else will as eventually the game will grow stale. I thought about going back for the expansion and just couldnt bring myself to waste that kind of time again.

World of Starcraft could destroy WoW easily; its a stronger franchise imo.

Vanguard does not have mass appeal; hell I dont even consider it good for hardcore gamers. Its an EQ1 re-hash and the potatos are burnt imo.

Re: WO, I dont think I could bring myself to trust Mythic/EA on an MMO. I had beef with Mythic from DAOC, the nightmare they made of my poor Mercenary at launch (altho I hear they eventually gave the classs a goldne age), the mindless grinding and lack of quests, the spitting upon crafters, I could go on; add EA into the mix and thats quite the sh** sandwhich there. Id rather give Funcom a chance on AoC (altho I know friends who had their own issues with Anarchy Onlines launch; Im sure they will give Mythic/EA a shot over Funcom).

Wont it be hard for WOW to become stale with the way Blizzard launches conent periodically? Like the Black Temple or w/e. It just seems that whenever things got slow they opened a new instance or something.

I wonder why WoW isn't coming out on X360... don't you think the X360 could handle this game? And allow people to play PC vrs console?

HAHAHAHA ... Pre-Order yours today!!!!!!! (will this be the WoW killer? :p :p :p :p )

WoW could never survive on a console currently.
While the hardware may be able to run/support it, it just does not have the chance to survive.

Quick reasons:
~You already pay to play on XBL, you will then have to pay Blizzard.
~The game requires chat many, any times which without a keyboard can be a bit tough.
~Button combos might be doable, but something that could draw a negative.

LoTR "could" be the WoW killer, but it will need to be an in depth game that pulls at the negatives of WoW. I do not see LoTR killing WoW though, my money will be on Warhammer or something that will be in early 08.

WoW requires a keyboard, and later teamspeak. I don't know if you can do either on x360 (you probably can but I don't know). Wow also requires like 8gb of hard drive space, plus if you can't use mods you are crippled in your end game raiding capacity.

Uhm... from what I know X360 and PS3 both have hard drives.... My PS3 currently has a 60gb HD.... I know of someone that hooked up a tara bite harddrive to their PS3...

I also know the PS3 has a BR player (BR DVD's can hold more than 8 gigs) and also you can use USB keyboard and mouse with any PS3.... Wireless or not.

I was just thinking it might be kinda fun to run around in WoW using a game controller... maybe have a wireless keyboard on the side or something to mash skills that arn't used a lot.

In WoW I was a raid leader, and an officer of one of the servers largest Horde raid guilds.

Then I got married.

I'm glad I dont play anymore. WoW is fun to level, but endgame is pure burnout.

Do you know how to spell "terabyte"?

I just deleted 3 lvl 70s. For those of you who play WoW you know the stupid amounts of time that can go into the game. RL calls....but i'm denying because....

I'm now going to play EVE online. !!!

Come on man, you could have made some good $$ with that. Or you could have gave it away. Still better then deleting char's =(

WTB Hellgate London PST. I just finished up leveling my paladin to 70 last week. Ran Shadow Labs once to start getting my Karazhan key, haven't logged in since. /yawn

I love computer games like this!

I was hooked on CS:S and asked my g/f (who HATED me playing CS:S) to help me quit. sex sex sex.. this is the best way to quite computer games.

The key to enjoying WoW is who you play with. Get friends, it is fun. Play without friends, it blows.

The key to enjoying WoW is not playing it. I used to play Diablo 2 every day for 8-12 hours a day for 2 years.... once I got hit by something *not sure what it was... maybe age?* I realized how much time I was wasting and how much of my life I was wasting. I look back, and though I still enjoyed playing the game, I wish I didn't play it as much as I did.

WoW is just one of those games you have to play almost all the time to get anywhere (or so it seems due to the fact I lost 2 of my friends to it) ... so many other games out there to play that don't require me to give up my life.

man just try crack. i was playing wow like 12 hours a day for a like a year straight. i started smokin crack man and a whole new universe opened up to me. i dont even have a computer anymore. i havent even thought of wow since!

I'm sure you have.

I loved playing WoW when it first came out, got CE edition the day it came out and was one of the first rogues to lev 60 on tichondrious (Drax) but the end game became so boring. P v P became stale and all that was left was going on long raids to get equipment. I quit about a year after it came out and now im eagerly waiting for warhammer online to come out as DAOC had the most enjoyable pvp ive ever played, mythic knows how to do pvp and warhammer online should be a great game for those of us that like mass end game pvp.

No it isn't. If you want to present a serious argument don't make assumptions. I play casually and have a 70 warrior with good gear, never play more than 2 hours a day. Stop making assumptions and stop forcing your bias views on everyone.

Look at the title of the thread. Maybe your in the wrong place, but I think it says "What will REPLACE WoW?

re·place (rĭ-plās') Pronunciation Key
tr.v. re·placed, re·plac·ing, re·plac·es

To put back into a former position or place.
To take or fill the place of.
To be or provide a substitute for.
To pay back or return; refund.

So I suggested to replace WoW with real-life, or other games... broaden that horizon.

And wouldn't most peoples view(s) on the situation of what MIGHT replace WoW be biased?

Maybe you should go back to WoW and keep farming that Gold.

You know what's funny... it's actually the opposite for me.

I don't like WoW. I played the beta years ago and thought it was "meh".

Since then, the RPG's I'm playing are Guild Wars, Oblivion, and Diablo II for old times sake.

WoW was a great game, the first time 1-60. I quit before the expansion, but the time required to advance in highend raids was the straw, for me. I put the time in for ZG, AQ, MC, BWL, AQ40, Naxx, and it really was too much.

I was commenting on a specific statement you made, maybe instead of posting smartass dictionary definitions you should brush up on reading comprehension.

Listen to this man. EVE allows you to level without actually playing due to its training system. I'm advancing right now and I'm not even logged in. :D It's the only way I have time to play an MMORPG.
