Hi, i want to buy a new videocard for my computer for gaming, what card would you suggest?

My specs:
- AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0ghz
- 2GB DDR2-800
- ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB GDDR3 (currently) kinda slow
- 460W psu, 12+ = 20amps
 
You could look at anything from a 4850-4870 to a 5750-5770 depending on how new or used you get it

depending on where you live you might be able to get a used 4870 for 100 bucks. either that or look at getting a 5770. its around 150 USD but worth the extra change.
 
only 20 amps on the +12 rail is kinda low... to run a 4870/90 you would need a solid 550w or better psu. look at spending around 50-60 bucks. look for at least 30amps on the +12

4890 is a very sweet card, if you can get it for 140, it will be very good for res up to 1920x1200
 
The 4890 is a steal of a deal if you can get it for sub $150. Your PSU might be too weak however. And adding another $80 or so on a decent PSU is probably not what you want. Its very likely that the 5750 or 5770 might run off your existing PSU.

You have to ask yourself the eternal question. How much to I invest into upgrades now versus an overhaul later. Your entire rig could honestly us a boost if your target goal is gaming. 2GB of ram screams to be doubled as well. But do you invest $300 into your current rig or not. The silver lining is a decent PSU can be carried over to your next rig as could the 4890

20A on a 460W PSU? Sounds extremely fishy here: What's the exact make and model? Since it only has 20A, pretty damn low considering that there are 380W PSUs with 27A on the +12V rail, there's a good chance that 460W PSU can't even provide 20A on the +12V rail. The low amperage compared to the rated wattage is a sure sign of poor PSU quality or an old PSU design geared towards older +5V based systems. Either way, that's not good for a GPU upgrade.

So please tell us the exact manufacturer and model number of that PSU. But it sounds like you're gonna have to get a new PSU no matter, even for the HD 5770.
 
if you can save up another $20 go for a 5770. I just picked up one and it's pretty good so far, over twice as fast as my old 8800 GTS.
 
A 260GTX wouldnt be a bad card. A bit heavier on the budget, but it performs well. Even a 4870?

Yup you're definitely gonna have to upgrade your PSU then. That's a generic brand PSU so more than likely it is not capable of providing even 26A on the +12V rail.

Factor in about $60 to $80 for a new PSU capable of handling the HD4890 or GTX 260. Or about $50 to $60 for a new PSU capable of handling the HD 5770.

So do you still want to upgrade?
