I have a dilemma. Would it be wise of me to use my existing rig (check sig) for virtualization and get a new system for my gaming, day-to-day tasks or part out my existing rig and get a new system that can handle both virtualization and games?

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming (BF3), Virtualization, Web Browsing, etc...
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
<$1500, but, lower be the better
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, RAM, Graphic Card, PS, HSF (H80 or H100), Optical Drive (BluRay player and/or DVD-Burner)
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Corsair 600T se. I might go with an Corsair AX750, because I want the fully modular route.
6) Will you be overclocking?

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Reuse that PC for virtualization and get a new PC for gaming if you're really serious about doing virtualization work. If virtualization is just a hobby, just get a new system that can handle both virtualization and games.

However, I'd recommend waiting until Ivy Bridge hits and then getting a new PC then.
 
If you're going to be doing virtualization while playing games, then build a new system. Otherwise, you can save yourself some cash. Of course it's generally better to have separate systems than not, but it is of course much more expensive.

Could you give more info about what virtualization needs you have?
 
Going to build a small virtual test lab at home, probably going to put up a DC, DNS, Exchange servers on ESXi. Just to familiarize my way around ESXi and freshen up my skills on the MS portion.

As Danny said, think i'm going to hold out on IB. I got myself confused with SB-E vs IB, thought IB was already out.

Right now, I'm leaning towards parting out my existing system and build a new one. I don't have alot of real estate on my desk and would probably lighten my electric bill.

I'll resurface this thread when IB hits the market. Thanks for the help.
