I recently have obtained 8 processors. All of the them are pulled from a Compaq server. They are each 700 Mhz Xeon 2MB cache processors, Slot2 type. What I'm wondering, is if I can buy a Slot2 board and throw 2 of these in it? I'd like to build myself a server using 2 of them, but I can't seem to find any boards for sale that are Slot2....not even on Ebay. Any suggestions?

i would say if there secket cpu you can scrap them for gold i used to but all the old pentium pro cpu the big ole one and sell them to gold scrap places 25-35 bucks a pound

try a WTB thread in FS/FT. SOMEONE'S got to have one lying around. This is the [H] after all.

see if you can pick up a few 4-way slot2 boards and get the systems up and running and do that folding at home stuff

I tried searching online and I'm not finding any boards anywhere. I'm starting to wonder if Slot2 boards only went to OEMs.

What happened to the mobo in the server you pulled them from?

It went bad, and the server was a demo unit that came with no warranty....internal use only.

Bah...the best thing to do with 8 old processors is go visit the distributed computing forum and donate them to the [H]orde. They will get put to good use.

Make one into a keychain.

Dremel off the PCB and file down the edges then drill a hole in it.
Did that with my old xbox cpu. Held up pretty well, too.
