What the **** is this!

Im guessing its for some serious CAD, Maya, etc.. users, but it doesn't really say its specific purpose on the page.

For some reason I thought that 3Dlabs went out of business. But other than that, see above replys.

Yer they're friggin awesome cards, just not for gaming. That said, i'd swap my GT for either of them any day :p

Innovative 256 GB virtual memory support shatters the limits of onboard memory by automatically handling huge datasets while caching essential data for fastest access

Now all is one of them, 256 1gb sticks of dual channel ram and a cluster and I'm set. Just wait till I bench doom 3 :D

you are looking at one of the more powerful graphics card for professionals.

this card excels at rendering cgi artwork, video editing, and similar stuff.

i'm afraid it's not so good for brain-exploding doom3 performance... quite the opposite infact.

That's nothing check this one out.

top of the line, state-of-the-art. same use as the other one, though.

for fragging monsters, stick with ati and nvidia. you will get phenomenal benchmarks with these two as compared to a 6800anything or a x800anything, but your gaming performance will actually decrease with them. they don't work the same way, and they really won't work right for what you want.

holy shi....... SHIAT MUSSLEMS...

That card has more ram than my old p4 box... I have 900 dollars in the bank... I so should order one, just to say OMFG I PWNZ JOO... lol well actually i do , do cad, but i have no need for THAT much power.

Quite right. For the Pro's who want both, you should get a Quadro 3400 or something along those lines. They are just as good for games as their Geforce counterparts, and good at the 3D stuff. And SLi is available with the PCI-E Quadro's.

really...? i thought that the quadros in general weren't as good in the game arena.

i guess i was wrong.

they process information in a different manner than gaming-oriented cards do. i'm not really sure how though.

maybe ice czar knows... ice czar seems to know *everything*.

On the average the wildcat is only good at couple things. The Quadro 4000 and The new FireGL outperform it easily.

I would never buy it, its so expensive but jeeze that thing is a beast *drools* :D

After 512MB of video ram, you wont notice a difference in Doom3. This card wouldnt play it very well.

A friend of mine wants to buy the realism 800 and it costs like 3 k. he says he does cad but im posotive hes bsing me (his current comp is a weak old p4) he can do everything with the comp he has now accept do his high end games (which he doesnt own) and he is building a new comp his buget is like 7k i think its a huge waste for him to spend 3k on 1 component that wont even do what he wants (gaming odviously) he allready messed himself up price wise by going for a dual processor mobgo cause he thinks 1+1=2 i told him 1+1= 1.2 at best but he doesnt believe me.... anyone have any good arguments to sway him from getting this card??? hes the smartest idiot i know and price isnt an issue for him so that cant be it... all he does is sees 512 mb of ram and than he looks into space and drools.

You should tell him to buy a 500 thousand dollar IBM eServer and when he can't play games with it make him give it to me :D

Just show him the benchmarks and compare the card to an Apple. Sure it looks nice and it's expensive as hell, but it doesnt do what most people want in a computer.

this comprison of all major professional 3Dcards is in german, i'm afraid, but the graphs include some gaming comparisons, too. see here on page 27: http://www.3dchips.net/content/downloadget.php?id=22&file=1&evp=82c60dee7489af396152458009a3d5f0

the monster you linked to originally (the realizm 200) scores a whopping 2.9fps in doom3 :D (that is HQ, no AA, 1024x768). the realizm 800 scores probably 3, so tell your friend slapping a piece of cardboard into his AGP slot is going to give him similar performance in games for much less.

the Pro level cards are slower in games do to being much more accuret at the poly verticys ie gaming level cards give some of this to be faster thats part of it any way

Plus their drivers are not geared towared gaming.

I'd say this is key. Some GeForces can be flashed into quadros, and quadros require a different driver set than the Forcewares.

Yeah, I wonder what kind of performance we would see from the 3DLabs cards if they had drivers like the Forcewares nVidia puts out.

Of course, then there is the actual architecture of the card and the internal core of the 3DLabs card itself is most likely not optimized for gaming (such as dx9, pixel shaders and the like).

Nope. They a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd. Creative also makes Nvidia and ATI based cards, which are mostly sold in Europe.

I had a friend like this once. After asking for my advice several times, then not believing, I let him buy what he wanted and suffer the consequences. If someone doesn't trust advice, assuming you have a fairly good track record on it, how well do they truly value their friendship with you?

Yeah that's really the difference. If you flashed a Quadro into a Geforce and used the Geforce drivers specifically it would probably do just as well.

The cores really are the same.
