So I just finished water cooling just the CPU

Koolance 345at
Swiftech MCP355 with XSPC res top
Swiftech MCR220 120.2
1/2" Tubing

The flow is impressive from what I saw while bleeding. But it's the temperatures that I am worried about. In the BIOS the CPU temperature is displayed as 22 degrees C idle. But under programs like Everest and Coretemp, CPU is around 35 and it displays the cores differently. They are 38 and then 41. This is all idle, I am downstairs where there is air conditoining and the side panel is off. I have outside air going to the radiator. I just reseated the block and it hasn't really helped much. I plan to overclock this e7300 so I would like some information on what my temperature really is.

I'm pretty sure the BIOS is showing the socket temperature not the actual core temp
 
I thought so. Does anyone have any ideas why my core temps are that high? I have a friend with a similar setup and he gets like 25 idle for core temps.

yeah like bkrawk said.. the bios shows the socket temp.. but since you are using a core 2 duo(this goes for all core 2 processors) the idle temps are wrong.. the only temp you want to go by is the full load temp.. and even then under 50C the temps are still off but not as bad as the idle temps are..

also i recommend you use realtemp to find your actual cpu temps.. since the TJmax is set correctly.. im not sure if its correct on everest or coretemp but i dont know its correct in realtemp..
 
Sorry about the lateness of my reply, I just haven't felt like pressing a simple button.

So here it is running Orthos so it's at full load. It runs around 50C and it's a cool day.

As with most systems its all about fan speed over your cooler. If you could force fan speed to 100% you would see the low idle temps. I suspect the Koolance system trades some higher idle temps for reduced fan noise. Also a lot of people report temps incorrectly. 25C for idle is stupid low and unless the system was running in a walk-in fridge I would tend not to believe that was accurate, not using coretemp blah blah. etc

Your load temps are excellent and the real key is the Distance to TjMax. That is an Intel factory set trip point like a countdown to when your CPU thinks it is hot and the CPU sends a signal to the motherboard to spin the fans up to 100% speed. Several deg C above that (10-20 is a good guess, Intel does not document that publicly) the CPU will turn itself off. Most of us set a personal limit somewhere around 80C under load to still maintain a comfortable thermal margin of 20C before the CPU even thinks itself as hot. But in theory you could run the CPU at 99C (Delta to TjMax = 1 ) 24x7 for 3 years and still be in warranty. (Well really you can run it so it shuts down and its still under warranty so it would be better to say it is within Intel's operational thermal envelope. ) So you are good to go and don't worry about idle temps, they are irrelevant once you are sure the cooling is installed properly.
