Looking at the fan on the back of this case (Rosewill RA-HG-M-01), is that 40mm? 80mm?

TIA!

Yeah, from the picture drescherjm found, it looks like it has mounts for 80mm or 92mm. I too used the PSU fan above it to gauge its size and 120mm would be too large.

If I end up ordering this case for my gf, I'd like to be able to replace its fans with silenx 80mms.

SilenX fans are garbage. They are overpriced, unreliable and resonate badly even with silicone mounts.

Check out SPCR for good fans. The current favorites are the Nexus Basic fans (80mm, 92mm, 120mm) which are rebranded Yate Loons ($5 at Petra's), but apparently cherry-picked, for static pressure applications (heatsinks, radiators) and Scythe Slip Streams (120mm) for exhaust where static pressure is not necessary. SPCR also reviewed the SilenX fans and found that their airflow-to-noise ratio was very good (better than the Nexus) but its tendency to resonate due to the metal frame made for a much more annoying sound signature. And the difference was very minimal.

pulled this from one of the reviews of the case on newegg.. here ya go..

new egg says its 120 mm fan..its not back fan is a 90mm fan and the front/side panel will take an 80mm.
back also has holes to replace 90mm fan with an 80.

Sweet, I'll check them out. I've used a 120mm silenx fan with my Scythe Katana 1 HSF with wonderful results. But if you insist I can get the same for less, then I'll take your word for it. :)

You can get better for less. :)

Also Noctua fans are garbage as well. They are definitely high quality but performance is lacking. Their sound signature isn't as smooth as the Nexus/YL, and SPCR's new test platform shows them to perform worse than the Nexus at the same noise levels.

+1 that you can get better than SilentX. Get a Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm. Just got one and the high pressure airflow really makes a difference when blowing against a load. Oh and it is pretty darn quiet too.

Judging from the PSU fan it looks like an 80 or 90. I'd guess 80. Most vendors use common fan sizes. 80mm is the most common for case fans. BTW, PSUs use 120mm for the internal intake the external one is normally an 80mm.

The Rosewill website doesn't give more info, but it looks like the fans are included (see pics). If the side fan is an 80mm then the rear one can't be a 120mm. See 1st pic with the side panel open.
