I'm building a new system and want to have a Sata Raid 0.
Basically I figure my Hdd choices are WD, Maxtor, Hitachi, and Seagate.
If there are other competitive manufacturers please let me know.
I was told that Seagate has native sata where WD uses some internal conversion, I haven't heard anything about Maxtor or Hitachi.
I also read that Seagate uses 100GB platters, does this make much of a difference, doesn't seem to help seek time much.
Obviously I know that a 10K raptor SCSI setup would be much better, but it's hard for me to convince myself to buy a 74GB drive for the same price or more than a 250GB one.
So if there is some huge reason they are worth it, let me know, although I doubt I can be convinced out of that much money.
I was planning on getting 2x 200GB Seagate Hdds, since it looks like that's the biggest Seagate makes.
But then I was told that Seagate might be slower than maxtor or WD, so now I'm not sure.
I figure the great minds in this forum can help me make a decision.

Basically I'm looking for a 400-500GB Raid-0 setup, what's my best option.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I actually started reading that thread, but didn't think it was gonna go where I was looking since he was asking about an external drive.
I guess I should have kept reading.

So it looks like Seagate is a good option.
One other question, is there much of a difference between a hardware raid and WinXPs raid?
I had a couple problems setting up my first one, although most were getting a >137GB drive recognized.
Is doing raid through the MB or PCI much/any better than WinXP.
My assumption would be yes, because how can windows be faster at anything, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks
