What RAM should I use?

I bought the GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard and I was wondering if I should use DD2 800, 1066 or 1200 RAM with this board. I will be doing light OC'ing and gaming on a CF setup with a RAID hard drive config. Thanks in advance!

Nope. $100 for 2GB of RAM? That's a total waste of money considering you can get 4GB of DDR2 1000 RAM for $10 less as shown in my last post.

Remember that C2D systems do not benefit that much in real world apps and games if the the FSB and RAM at anything other than a 1:1 ratio or having faster RAM. Some math:

Stated FSB/4 = Actual FSB
Multiplier x Actual FSB = CPU Speed
2 x Actual FSB = RAM Speed
1:1 ratio: FSB = 1/2 RAM speed

Q9450:
Multi x Actual FSB, RAM Speed = Clock Speed
8 × 333Mhz = 2.6Ghz, DDR2-667 <<== Stock speeds
8 × 400Mhz = 3.2Ghz, DDR2-800 <<== Easy OC
8 × 450Mhz = 3.6Ghz, DDR2-900 <<== Good OC
8 × 500Mhz = 4.0Ghz, DDR2-1000 <<== Excellent OC

Oh wow, you're right! I didn't even notice that! For some reason I thought that set of DDR2 1200 was 4GB (2x2). However, I don't even think they make 2x2 DDR2 1200 RAM. My mistake. The one you mentioned is def the better of those two. Thanks!

I've been following along on this thread, 'cause I'm in a similar situation.

I have a Q9450 coming in tomarrow [Monday], and I'm looking at the
GigaByte GA-X38-DS4 or the GA-X38-DQ6 or something along these lines.

I will also need RAM.

I marked your suggested G.Skill DDR2 1000 RAM

The orig posted said a Q9450 [quad] ...

Was that just a typo ???? ...

Not pickin' ... just want to be sure what I need to do :)

I've been looking for new ram to go with my EP35C-DS3R. Was either going to go with the Mushkin 8000 or the Gskill 8500 but figured I would save some cash and get the Gskill 8000 listed above.. Picked up 8gig so I hope everything works out with it.

Damn Ballistix crapped out so I ended up making so system changes.

I lump any CPU developed from the C2D CPUs all together since there's really no major architectural differences between Intel's C2D, C2Q and Pentium Dual Core CPUs besides the number of cores, FSB and L2 cache.

So the C2D tag/name still applies to the Q9450 IMO.
 
Often it seems like it - very little do we hear about Newegg *ever* denying an adjustment for people (especially for long time customers). And the guy that L last recall ranting (last week I think it was) - ended up getting the reduction after starting a thread here and then asking again.

I wish they would have dropped the price a couple days back - I finally bit on the 2x2GB A-Data's @ $62/$68 tax on Monday (shipped from TN though :( won't be here until tomorrow); the G.Skill's would have cost me nearly $100, now just over $80, less than w/ that promo code they had (considering CA tax). Oh well, don't really need more than decent clocking PC6400 anyway. Still blue heatspreaders would have looked nice, I'll just have to be happy w/ red/pink and console myself in the fact that I paid less for 4GB than I did for my 2GB Ballstix back in October'ish (no MIR to boot).
 
well they did not adjust my current order but said they would give me $30 off my next order by replying to the e-mail I got.. Have to see how that works out.. :(
