What RAM should i get?

Im upgrading my comp pretty soon to:
Socket 939 3000+ Winchester
DFI Nforce 4 Ultra-d(the non-sli one)
6600gt PCie

I currently have 1gb(2x 512 MB sticks) of Corsair Value PC 3200 Ram

Im gonna overclock, so i was wondering if i should just stick with this, upgrade to something better(needs to be a gig and be under 170$).

hahah Id love to have that RAM, but its just not happening. Its way too much for me. I was looking for 170$ or less for some good RAM. Im not going all out with this overclock, just as far as air will take me.

You could probably just stick with that for now and run a divider to go as far as the CPU will take you. You won't take that much of a performance hit running a divider as opposed to 1:1.

Yeh your VS should be good to about 222mhz. 1 gig of OCZ Gold VX Pc3200 would be fun but for cheap you might look at something like Corsair XL, Geil Ultra-X or G.Skill Value (ocs well)

G.Skill had some memory for $134 that was TCCD, but not 2-2-2-5 stuff. My pc4400 was $240 but it does 295mhz FSB without errors, but my CPU runs best 280x9.5

I can't find it but it was G.Skill, it was posted on this forum somewhere (memory i believe) about how on another forum was tests with this particular ram and it is on par w/ TCCD. I believe it was 131.50 or 134.50 for 2x512mb sticks.

I could be way off though...

OK someone on another forum directed me toward a gigi(2 512 sticks) of OCZ pc3200 VX RAM. The person that recommended that to me has gotten them to almost 250 mhz with low timings. Thanks for the help

Have to check voltages though. That VX stuff won't run the low timings without more voltage than most boards support.

Get some Gskill LE and some active ram cooling, pump up the volts to 2.8-3.0 and you'll nail 300mhz easy. I also managed to get 240 @ 2-2-2-5. Gskill isn't that expensive anymore

My issue is that I'm planning to get an msi neo4, which can't do anywhere near 3 Vdimm, but would like some moderately inexpensive OCing ram....

Stock answer...

TwinMOS TMSP/400 is $110ish for 2x512MB, get it if you can do 3.2V

If you can't, try Crucial Ballistix.

Furthermore since we're talking A64 you can do pretty damn good without overclocking the memory at all.

Also, Venice & San Diego should hopefully be out Monday, so screw Winchester. On the other hand there are a couple good rebates for it so it's still worth considering.

For cheap ram get PQI turbo, Mushkin Level 2 Ver. 2, Patriot PDP, all good and use TCCD. To the above guy: you should be getting at least 305 if you are using 3.0 volts. I would adjust some more BIOS settings, it will help take you out of the voltage "red zone".

My preference is pretty much BH-5 > CH-5 > 5b-g > then TCCD. It's good in Intel rigs where you need to worry about the memory divider, not so good in A64 where a memory divider doesn't mean crap.

yeah well, im getting a DFI mobo(the NForce4 Ultra -d), so im pretty sure i can supply the volts. I found some PC 3200 OCZ VX ram, which is what im gonna try to get. Thanks for the help again!
