I've normally always used Intel. I've always had bad experiences with other processor manufacturers.
Cyrix's and AMD's gave me issues like hell back in the day. I've had two Athlon's both Tbird's. That was nightmarish for the most part. Where I work I see alot of fried Athlons of all kinds. Whereas I've yet to ever see a fried Intel chip.
I've thought about an A64 rig as the performance is hard to ignore. I've had good expereinces with AMD and even Cyrix/VIA before. But I've always had good experiences with Intel. So I tend to trust the quality of their CPU's more.
Who knows after AMD PCI-Express solutions become more common and some damn PCI-Express video cards actually become common I might take the AMD plunge.
I have an Intel now. It's a 2.66B Northwood, and while it still does the job (at 3.1 - 3.2 ), I'm looking for better. I suppose I might go for a 3.2 or 3.4C now that Intel has cut prices, but my next new computer might be AMD. My current plan is to go to a Socket 939 next summer (when I have the time/money). I would assume that by then 64-bit apps will be rather common and PCI-X will be on the AMD platform.
I voted the first one, but Intel doesn't suck by any means. I just want 64-bit, and the 939 Athlons are awesome.
