Okay, I just got my replacement vid card back and my comp is finally up and running. While I was waiting for my card, I modded my case to have a lot better airflow, as well as reseated my waterblock with some new AS5. I know the paste hasnt really "set" yet but these temps at idles are ridiculous! bios says 53. I really want to OC so im looking for idle temps in the low 30s.

WB - TDX
Pump - D5
Rad - X-Flow Stealth GTS 240 Black Ice
Res - Swiftech Micro

What is wrong with your temps? They're too high, that's what. Might just be that the AS5 hasn't set yet, but it sill should not be that high, did you put the right amount of AS5 on? A layer too thick will drive up temps like crazy.

er i stated they were too high, and that the AS5 hasnt set yet, although they still shouldnt be that high. :) thanks though. I followed the AS guide on how much and where to put the compound on for the C2D

Yes, I was just reiterating that it could possibly be that the AS5 had not yet set, as you said earlier. Also, if you wanted to, you could always just redo the whole process and see if you still get the same temps, just to see if it is the AS5 or not.

Using Tat to load both cores to 100%, temps reached 80c in about 2 minutes. Something is seriously wrong :(

3 possible things here....

1. Your WB isn't pushing against your CPU hard enough. While it's loading try pressing the block against the cpu carefully (but with force! At least 20-30lbs)

2. You used waaaay too much arctic silver

3. Your HSF is having contact problems... Have your temps ever been similar to their current position, but with a different HSF? High temps across many HSFs would indicate an actual problem with the CHIP it's self, thats cause for an RMA.

i have that water block and a similar motherboard. i bet 100 points i know whats wrong. that block is tooooooo friggen big. i had to grind part of the edge off about 1/8" and 1/16" deep so the block doesnt hit the capacitors near the cpu, i bet its not making proper contact, though you would probably never see the 1-2mm difference in height across the block. other then that i love the TDX heh

After HOURS of sanding the WB, i finally got it to clear the capacitor. I have remounted my WB at least 15 times now (i would consider myself a pro:p )

I wish my idle temps were slightly lower but with the load temps and the delta im pretty satisfied. The AS5 hasnt really set either.

idle is from 33-40, load is from 41-47.

Im going to wait on overclocking because as im starting up my comp now the bios screen and stuff is scrambled (seems like a video card problem)... yay me, wait a month for a replacement and i get my card back "fixed." I might as well just get an 8800gts and be done with this mess. __|__ middle finger to Leadtek.

100 points in the bank, and you might consider investing in a dremmel or other small rotary tool. it took me about 15 minuits to get thru the copper with that, well worth $70

Dremels are nice, but never underestimate the power of a 10" mill bastard hand file ;)
