So about a week ago, this started happening, when I login to windows (7) my screen goes black. I know it is loading because it plays the sound, but the screen is blank. Sometimes there are small green lines, like you'd see if a game glitches or something to that effect in one area of the screen, then they go away shortly after.

It does this about 50% of the time now. I'm assuming it's not a graphics card problem, because everything is fine up until the windows UI loads. I get the splash screen and login screen fine, then when I login, blam, black screen.

Any ideas what the problem is? When I reset and go into safe mode it seems to work fine. Which makes me believe this could be a driver problem? I did install new vid drivers not too long ago. My rig is in my sig. Thanks in advance for the help.
 
Roll back to the older drivers and see if that fixes the issue?
 
Ya, I'm going to give another driver a shot when I get home. Just wanted to hear from the pros on what might be causing this
 
It definately sounds like something to do with the video card or it's driver. It's quite possible for a card to work fine for basic 2D stuff but fall over when asked to do 3D acceleration and IIRC in win7 the desktop uses 3D acceleration.
 
Well I reinstalled the old drivers I had, and the problem went away, for a week.

Now its happening again. Anytime I login to windows it glitches up as the desktop is loading. I can boot into safe mode, but thats it.

What now?
 
call the card maker and speak to a tech,if he walks you through the trouble shooting he might rma the gpu.

It's so random though. Like last night after I updated this thread, I rebooted and loaded into normal win 7 instead of safe mode, and it logged in fine. It doesn't happen 100% of the time. And it came back out of the blue, so odd.
