what is this!?

TDP is not the same as actual power consumption. that is what the package is designed to dissipate. If it is just a 9550 with some of the cache disabled it shouldnt be more expensive though. probably just because it is newer.

It's pretty silly that it's priced at the same level as the Q9550 (which is currently on sale for $10 cheaper at the moment as well), but yes, it's just a Q9550 with half the L2 cache.

i wonder what those marketing directors in intel were thinking when they released this CPU

Probably something along the lines of "hey we have half a million yorkfield cores sitting around with crippled cache, we should do something with them before the socket goes completely EOL"

6mb of cache isn't that hard of a sell to the uninformed either, its within striking distance of the current 8 intel ships and the same as the 6 you get with Phenom II's

Wow. Half the cache & $60 more than I paid at MC. Heard these were coming to replace the Q9550. That's why I grabbed the Q9550.

Its supposed to replace the Q9400 from what i hear, also is due to a price drop as well.

Newegg rips your off, both on shipping and prices. I realized this about 3 months ago.

Lol, you have somewhere else that is better?
They have good customer service, processing and shipping is fast, and prices seem on par with anywhere else...

My i7 was cheaper...Microcenter FTW! ;)

wtf does newegg have to do with it? it is the q9400 replacement. msrp for 1000 cpus is $212 each. and without even looking i know newegg ships it free. and how could it possibly have an 11x multi? its a 2.83ghz cpu running on a 1333 bus, exactly like the 9550. jesus christ.

Oh don't get me wrong.. I should not have said that about newegg, I guess its just that when you are addicted to microcenters low prices, you cannot keep your mouth shut haha
