i was searching around and i found something called "dynex silver thermal compund" these are the product specs:

Be kind to your CPU and keep it cool with the added protection of silver-based thermal compound.

5 grams (approx. 0.2 oz.) gray thermal compound in a syringe; spreader card included
Extended temperature limits 0°C to 200°C
9.2428 W/m.C thermal conductivity

i get that its for cooling the cpu, but how the hell does it work? is it permanent or temporary, bleh????????

EDIT:eek:h, yeah, I was also wondering how i can overclock my system. the bios on it is useless for overclocking, plus i have no idea how to overclock, but i have a intel celeron D (prescott tech) running at stock 2.6ghz. i want to get it to at least 3ghz on normal voltage. can i have some help? any guides, programs i can use to overclock through windows rather than the bios?
 
read the faq... the thermal compound is a arctic silver clone... i say go with arctic silver 5 and call it a done deal...
 
yeah its an arctic silver clone, i was at best buy and HAD to buy some beacuse i was completely out of thermal compound.

So long story short they said they had it... i get there, all that was there was the silver knock off. I bought some becasue I had no choice. I doubt it would be able to match exacly the thermal transfer properties of its "True" counterpart. But im sure it works nearly as good. One thing i can say about it being better is. this stuff if you get it on the desk or your fingers, instead of having to rub for 30 minutes with alcohol/acetone to clean it off, the Dynex stuff is actually much easier to clean up
 
of course, you asked the Geek Squad...I'm surprised they didn't tell you that AS5 is incompatible with your mobo and recommended you replace it. Or charge you the flat $29 telephone assistance fee.

They are tools (well most of them at least). :D

Getting back on subject, most of those cheapie AS clones are bad news. Get the real deal Holyfield.
 
so that stuff is basically just the adhesive, only it works better? :confused:
 
yeah, i know its not glue, i worded that a little...wrong, i must say, so i guess im gonna get some of that stuff. ill report back sometime with what kind of temp. change i get.
 
It's thermal paste. It is a substance that is extremely conductive of heat. It fills the micro gaps in the surface of your heatsink/heatspreader so that thermal transfer from the processor to the heatsink is optimal.

As for overclocking... do you have a Dell, HP, or similarly packaged computer? If so you'll probably not have much luck with overclocking. But I wouldn't worry too much, as overclocking a Celeron isn't going to make Word and IE run any faster, and you can't "overclock" your cache, so there's not much hope for gaming.
 
to be honest, the celeron actually works quite well. i know a lot of AMD/ P4 HT savvy folks might disagree, but after actually using the Celeron, i am not afraid to say it really works quite well. 720 and 1080 HD both run smoothly on it, and games run just fine. Of course, I'm not hitting the crazy overclocked numbers of other games and CPU's that are going on right now, but I'm happy with what I've got. I'm gonna highly upgrading in the very near future because I am one of those people who have to have the very best after a while. All i need to do is get a new mobo and graphics card and im set. but for now what i have is great.

thermal paste. its used between the core and the heatsink to provide better transfer of heat.

traditionally, celerons have been known to overclock well, but whether or not you'll see real world improvements in performance is not known.
