I was taking apart my old P3 800 system, noticed this slot and I'd like to know what it's for. thanks
 
Probably a dual socket/slot motherboard. If you have a slot 1 cpu instead of a socket cpu you use that.
 
yes that's what it is... seen alot of those... the mobo wil either use a socket 370 or slot 1 processor. I'm pretty sure only VIA had these though....

Yeah that is a Slot 1 for Slot style CPUs. I did not know they made dual socketed/slot MBs like that.

Old P2 and P3 and the first Athlons used a Slot connector. Intels where Slot 1 and Athlons Slot A.
 
Yeah, a bunch of the old junker P3 systems at my school have those. No socket though, just the slot. Of course none of them have processors, which sucks.
 
yep, it's a VIA chipset...I kinda thought that it might be a slot processor. does this mean if I wanted to I could run dual processors hehe

No, its one or the other. Kinda like some boards have memory slots for SDR, and DDR - but you can only use 1
 
The old Slo-cket (Slocket) Motherboard eh...Me and B.B.S. were talkin' bout those the other day...
 
Correct. You can use only one at a time on that motherboard, but you can use one or the other which is useful for testing processors and such.
 
kinda looks like a tyan trinity 400 board with the via apollo pro 133a chipset, but kinda hard to tell
