Everywhere I look, I see huge price differences...is there a difference between these products?

PNY Quadro FX 3000 for $539
http://www.hypermicro.com/product.asp?pf_id=VDPN110

PNY Quadro FX 3000 for $1,556
http://www.zones.com/cgi-bin/zones/site/product/index.html?id=000944138&zone=zbs

But I can find GeForce's with the same amount of ram for sometimes under $300...or with double the amount of RAM for just $600

As I understand it the GeForce is basically the same as the Quadro...I want to use this for workstation purposes but what's the point of buying a Quadro if it has lower specs for the same price?

It has a lot to do with drivers. The geforce cards won't suck at workstation graphics, but the Quadros are optimized for that work, as opposed to the geforce that are optimized for gaming.

Okay, but for the same price range I could either:

512 MB 6800 Ultra

or

128 MB Quadro FX 1300

or

256 MB Quadro FX 3000

It's not clear to me why I can apparently get a 1300 for the same price as a 3000, but you can see the links below...

So, which of these 3 choices is best?

Why does the FX 3000 come the same price as the 1300 at certain websites?

And finally, would it be possible to just get a GeForce and then run Quadro drivers on it?

Large companies will pay more money for graphics cards that they need to do CAD and other work. Therefore graphics companies take the same 6800 Ultra and make it a Quadro FX 3000 and sell it for twice as much money.

I've heard some rumours about being able to turn GeForce cards into Quadro cards by running some software.

Is it possible to make the 6800 Ultra run a workstation driver?

Do some googling. I have heard the same. Something about flashing the graphics card's bios to the quadro bios.

QuadroFX 3000 = NV35 core, same as a GeForceFX 5900 AGP
QuadroFX 1300 = NV38 core, same as a GeForceFX 5950 PCI-e
6800 Ultra = NV40 core, same as a Quadro FX 4400 PCI-e

.....it's very possible to run Quadro drivers on a GeForce. RivaTuner can trick the drivers into thinking the GF is a Q. You might be able to find a Quadro bios at various websites and flash the comparable GF card to a Q card. Here's a list of the cores that are on some FireGL and Quadro cards.

There is no difference.

Only difference is price. One is just white box and the other is an OEM hp part. Compaq/hp branded stuff always costs more becuase of warranty, name, etc.
