My CPU temps are nice and cool, but the mainboard sensor (right under the socket I believe) is over twice the temp of the cpu? I've got a Corsair H70 cooler on there, keeping it nice and cool, but why does the mainboard sensor report such a significantly higher temp? I'm not overclocking as of now.

unless the programs naming it wrong 59C sounds more like its the chipset then the cpu socket. but if it is the cpu socket its offset wrong. typically its 10-12C higher then the processor and as for it being 10-12C higher blame the bios/board manufactures even though the numbers useless and serves no purpose anymore. best way to check is with speedfan. to find all the sensors. put the processor under full load and find the sensor that changes. see if the change is the same within that program you are using.
 
Do you have any fans blowing over the chipset? As there is no fan on the HSF it can remove air blowing across the motherboard and raise tempretures, even though the CPU gets better cooling.

59c does seem a little high however.
 
The H70 is lowering the CPU temperature, but the chipset relies on the CPU's (now non-existant) HSF for most of it's airflow.
 
I do have a fan blowing over where the CPU socket is, but it may still be positioned as an exhaust. I'll have to check the chipset, see how hot it is.
 
I always use the good old finger test for chipset temp since motherboards can read temperatures wildly.

First thing to do is to make sure that all the heatsinks on your motherboard are seated firmly and have a very thin but full cover of thermal interface.

Then just touch them with your finger when your running prime or OCCT. Is it so hot that you can't bear to touch it? If so then they are too hot. Put a fan on them until it doesn't burn you. Or you can buy a cheap ($50) infrared sensor and use that.

If its so hot you can't touch it its above 55C and should be cooled. Some chipsets run much hotter than that with default cooling (like my P6T) but its so easy to cool them down that you might as well do it.
 
It's the SB thats too hot. My video card is blocking airflow from reaching it, and I don't think the tiny heatsink is doing a very good job.
