I got lucky on an RMA and was able to aquire another eVGA 8800GTX in exchange for my defective 7950GX2 (I bought an eVGA 8800GTX to replace it before trying to RMA). At any rate my question is what motherboard's should I be looking at for SLI? Im kind of leary after reading about all the 680i problems but really like it's capabilities. Main thing is moderate overclocking and stability with my current hardware (in sig).

"intel SLI"? Isn't an Intel SLI based setup kind of like putting $3000.00(US) worth of rims on a 1988 Yugo which has an approximate street value of $2.00(US)?

And yes, AMD is god.

Well you can see what I"m running here. Just got it built and it cooks. Eat your heart out AMD

With that kind of hardware, I'd probably get a 680i board and just take my chances that I got a good one. Probably the Asus P5N32-E SLI is what I'd get. I trust Asus a little more than the eVGA, et. al boards at this point (not that they are terrible or anything...more personal preference than anything else).

i have had 2 evga's (i blew up the first one) and both have been flawless. running 2 raid 0 arrays, on board sound and 465mhz x 8. also, the asus 650i sli board is supposed to be about a cool sucker. i am not going to go sli this time around (dont see any games coming up that 1 8800 cant run on 1680x1050) so i am looking at the asus commando underwearless mainboard.

have you been living under a rock for the last 12 months?

939 and nforce 4 is no longer king of the hill. wake up and smell the ashes!

Thanks for the replies. I had read somewhere that the 680i boards had issues with raid, x-fi cards and performance issues with SLI (3 things that stuck out at me). Can anyone confirm these being fixed with the latest bios release (23 I believe)? A sticky I read eluded to the idea that the Asus 680i board didn't have all the problems of the other contenders but it appears to be more expensive as well as out of stock almost everywhere. I see that some people are doing ok with the eVGA version with a setup similer to what I am planning.

I'm not running sli, but my evga 680i has been performing flawlessly since november. I think one of the early bios revisions addressed the issue with the sli and crackling audio problem on the xfi cards. As far as the raid stuff goes, I'm running raid 0 with no problems. Didn't catch wind of any raid problems. Just the sata controller crap some were experiencing and that got a bios revision as well.

No the 680i boards I think are doing well on the P24 bios release. Mine's SLi enabled and really screams. I've got the big zalmon cooper inside with the case door closed and it's completly staable. Games are unbelievable.

Yes, running a setup like this you need between an 800 - 1 KW PSU or your GPU's will have issues.

DC:cool:

Yup if you want to run 2x 8800 you'll need a 680i motherboard. Since your cards are evga you'll need a evga 680i motherboard.

No, any cards that are capable of SLI will be able to be run on a eVGA mobo, and any eVGA mobo can run any two SLI cards.

edit: Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
