What If The Internet Breaks?

Two words: Total Anarchy!

But since the Internet is not a single 'thing' but rather the nexus of multiple connections and data to data points, it is impossible to 'break' the entire internet short of using a global-wide EMP pulse that would knock out all electronics in the world simultaneously.

That's actually a possibility. If/When there is a particularly strong solar flare aimed at earth it could take down every electrically powered device and network unless we have enough advanced warning to switch everything off. It has happened before, but it went largely unnoticed; because we didn't yet rely on electronic devices.

Which is nearly impossible because of the amount of power you would need to power an EMP with that kind of range, or multiple EMPs with shorter ranges.

But yes, it's a gigantic network, incredibly difficult to break unless you kill every last router and network server in the network. There are thousands of those, by the way.

High-altitude nukes. You wouldn't even need that many to blanket a continent.
