Just wondering what the best cooling solution would be for the Core 2 Duo processors. I currently have a thermalright xp-90 on my 3700 clawhammer and was wondering if i can re-use it. Also, can anyone recommend me a motherboard? I'm hearing good things about the DS3, but would it be quad core compatible for the future? I'm thinking GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz RAM to go with it. Cheers in advance.

The Gigabyte DS3 is a good board. If you need firewire and Intel raid then you might want to try an Asus P5B Deluxe.

The Asus will need at least an Audigy or your X-Fi sound card. The on board sound is junk but it overclocks like crazy. :D

you can use the xp90 on the c2d, you just need to get an adapter, http://svc.com/lga775rm-21.html. i'm using an xp90 on my 915D with the adapter and everything works fine and the temps are definitely lower than the stock hsf. for a hsf better than an xp90 your looking at spending $40 or more, so you might as well spend $5 on the adapter and see if that gets you the results you want.
 
Keeping my xp-90 is an option then. I've been reading good things about the arctic freezer pro 7 though. May go for that as it's only £16. Will be ordering my stuff early may time.
 
I have the arctic freezer 7 pro. At stock, c2d runs at 19-21*C, although it is cold in my dorm. System temp is like 27-31*C
 
Big Typhoon is an excellent and quiet unit. Mount it with the bolt heads on the bottom of the mobo...easier to tighten the heatsink down that way. Also you can see how well the Typhoon will direct some air right to the northbridge, that's a Gigabyte DS3 in the pic.
